ANOTHER TIME

Chapter 1

"Emma come on we need to go now" my brother, Jacob shouted through my door
"I'm coming " I shouted back. carrying my house keys I followed my brother out.
"So are you excited for your first day"Jacob said.
"Well not really I liked not having to do anything ".
"Well sorry you know it's compulsory for everyone to start work at nineteen it's not going to be that bad".
He was right I needed to suck it up, but I still don't understand why the government has us working at nineteen i mean why can't it be at the age twenty or something, anything older. I mean I understand that we all have to work to survive but really why nineteen.
We were walking on the pathway until I saw a white mini van drive up the hill
"Jacob look" I said pointing at the van
"Shit. What time is it"
"it's 7:30,why did you make me go out by seven thirty"
"My time wasn't correct" he said annoyed by the question which is really important if you ask me.
"Run"Jacob shouted.
We started running back to our house thank goodness we weren't that far. I got to the door first and used my key to unlock it Jacob locked up after me.
"That was close" I said breathing heavily.

I'm sure your confused why I'm running because I saw a minivan, you see since the year 4000 there's been a policy that if you are out of your house by  7:30am and 1:00 am the van on your street will take you to a place called CRAWL. Nobody really knows what goes on in there but there have been rumours of the government putting chips into people to make them inhuman, but only a few go to CRAWL if you're not chosen to go there you'll be taken to a Center for disobeying conduct and you'll be punished. Everybody's punishment is different some are flexible while some are not.
      My dad used to work there as an officer but he died, more like he was killed. He used to tell us what happened there. When prisoners are taken to the center and they disobey the orders in there they are given twice their normal punishment which might not be that bad depending on your punishment for example if your serving during the day and can go back home when your done and you disobey the rules there, you have to sleep there until your time in the center is over and I've heard that sleeping there is the worst. My best friend Lucas used to volunteer there and buy volunteer I mean his parents made him but he was okay with it. He stopped going when  he turned nineteen but he goes there once in a while to visit his friends there.
