I had to give Ray the proper burial. First, I needed to cover up the wound.  With all the strength I had left, I flew up to the treetops, and picked large green oval-shaped leaves. Next, I followed the trunk of the tattered tree down to where there were layers of sticky sap and firmly pressed the leaves against it. These would serve as bandages for his open wound. I couldn't bear to see him injured even if he wouldn't live to hear.  When I had reached the cave, I knelt down beside Ray to prepare to cautiously remove the spear. Gripping the wood of the body, I held one hand pressing on his chest. Closing my eyes, I yanked as hard as I could. The spear flew across the cave and landed with a sharp clink. I tried not to look at his blood on my hands. I grabbed the leaves, which were sitting to the side, and patched over where the spear had left its gaping marks. Perhaps I could save him. It's all I could fathom to think. I knew he was gone but still felt the need to wonder.

Never had my heart ached more than now. A sharp pain resided within me and persisted in my mind and every inch of my body. Hands shaking, I looked down at Raiden. His blood-stained my fingers in a deep red. I killed him. It was all my fault. I should have looked around. Even a simple glance in the right direction would have prevented his death.

Now that I was safe, I could let myself wallow. I needed a moment with him. My best friend. He died for me. Protecting me. It should have been me that died for my people. Ray didn't deserve to go like this. Cold tears dribbled down my cheeks and fought each other as they landed on the dark biting cave floor. He lay there motionless. I let out a terrorizing scream. The lightning sparked in my hands and shocked the cave walls. Sparks of white bounced all around in fury. I was losing control again. My emotions triggered my power and I had never felt this much at once before. This is a burden I can not bear on my shoulders. He was supposed to be here my whole life. Rage and vengeance seared in my mind. I lashed my arm out towards the sea through the opening of the cave. I watched as the lightning hit a tree on the mountain and sent it into firing flames. How could something so vile happen to the kindest of people? So many times Ray had fought for peace and put his life on the line. But I had never imagined it like this. Him laying before me, helpless and incapable. I leaned down and laid on his chest. Gently grabbing his open hand, I wrap my hand in his. "Ray..." I whispered as the world faded into pitch black.
