Bard woke up in the air, on a broom and sitting next to a witch, who was keeping him from falling. He blinked for a moment, feeling really shaky.

"What happened?"

Miriam gave a quick glance behind her.

"Oh there you are. You sang your stupid message to the king."

Ghost message? What was Miriam talking about? Then it dawned on him

"OH! Right! The message! The ghost was actually a princess from Chaandesh!"

"Ahuh." Miriam said in a uninterested tone.

"And she wanted the war to end... Did it work? The message?"

There was a slight pause, then, listening hopefully-

"No. It completely did not work. The King was really insulted by it. He threw you in jail. And then, eventually, he taught the Hero the song... and I had to spy on them to learn it, and then I had to bust you out of jail... and it was pretty cool and heroic, and..."

Wow, though Bard, how much has happened?

" Jeez. You were really passed out for all of that?" Miriam said in a slightly quieter tone.

"Guess so!" It was really weird how much time had past in the black that Bard was in.  Did that mean he was a wanted criminal, since the king threw him in jail?

Miriam had done so many things, too... maybe it would have caused less problems for Miriam if he stopped causing so many issues.

What was she thinking about? Was she mad at him for getting into trouble again?

"I'm sorry I caused so many problems... It's a good thing you were there to help me out. Again..."

He felt he sigh, "That's fine. I'm getting used to saving your butt."

A thought smashed into his head, important and worrying.

"OH! Wait...! The King said they were invading in three days! Is that still gonna happen? What are we gonna do, Miriam?"

"It's two days now. And, I don't know. It's not our problem. For now, we're going... to the Sky Temple. The nexus point, right on the border. We have everything we need to go meet the Overseer... and that's the priority. In fact... we're gonna get there... now."

They descended from the clouds, Bard still leaning on Miriam.  The air wasn't so much cold as his shaking made him nervous to hold on on his own. He didn't want to fall down from the sky. last time hurt enough.

As they came to a (sorta) smooth landing, his shaking was mostly gone.

"Feeling better?" Miriam asked.

"Yeah! Just kinda wobbly..." Bard said, shaking out his legs.

"Great. Well. Song time!"

Miriam watched him for a minute, squinting at him. By now, Bard was used to how Miriam acted, and could often tell how she was feeling. But ever since Chismest he was more certain, after working together to take down the factory, and making a power potion. But she was acting differently. She usually tapped her foot but now she was just looking at him.

"... I guess I'll play it on my piccolo, since I'm the one who knows it this time."

"Great!" Said Bard, and Miriam took out the pretty black and silver instrument. Bard already knew she played, when she was hanging out with the sad roof guy. He happened to walk past where they were playing once, and hoped Miriam didn't notice.

"...This feels weird..." She looked up at him. Miriam was never nervous. Angry, sure. But nervous?

"Just don't listen too closely, okay?" Miriam pretty much mumbled into the collar of her small pink cape.

"What?"

"I'm not some fancypants musician, okay?" She glared up at him for  a moment and before she could lose her nerve, started to play.

The music was really pretty, especially on a piccolo. Miriam did a good job, and Bard started to dance, trying to encourage her to play louder. It didn't work, but it was fun!

He could catch some familiar notes from some of the other Overseer songs, but was unique, too.

With one final, wavering note, she finished the song.

Confusion on his face, he looked around.

"It don't think it worked."
