Jack POV
“’Lex, what’s wrong? You seem mad.” Alex turned around, as if something snapped.
“Why the hell did you tell them we were dating? They didn’t need to know! You should have asked first, you inconsiderate jerk!” Alex yelled. I felt tears in my eyes. I turned around without a word and ran out of the bus. I just ran. I didn’t have a specific place to go to.
“JACK!” I heard someone scream. I looked up and jumped out of the way of an incoming bus. However, I jumped right in the way of a car. The car hit me and ran over me. I started crying in pain. The car stopped, and the driver got out and rushed over to me. I looked over and saw Alex crying and walking over to me. “Jack! Jack! I’m sorry!” I saw Alex kneel beside me. He placed his hand on my arm. “Jacky, I didn’t mean to. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean anything. Please.. Please live through this.”
“’Lex~” I shakily brought my hand up and stroked his cheek. He gripped my hand. I tried to sit up. It hurt, but I made it.
“Jacky, you shouldn’t be moving~”
“’Lex, I’m fine. I just need to rest~” The lady who hit me gave me her card and $200 cash after apologizing. Alex helped me limp to the bus. It was hard to breathe while walking. We got back to the bus quickly. As we were going up the stairs, I passed out.
Alex POV
My eyes widened as Jack passed out as we were going up the stairs. I gasped and picked him up.
“What happened to Jack?” Zack asked, worry lining his voice.
“He got hit by a car. He didn’t want to go to the hospital though,” I replied. I took him in to the bunkroom and laid him on his bunk. He looked awful. Bruiseswere already starting to form. He had cuts. His ribs looked swollen, along with a few other places on his body. It really worried me.
I felt tears fall down my cheeks. I did this to him. I dropped to my knees and gripped his hand. “Jack, I need you to wake up. I didn’t mean to upset you. I don’t know why I got so upset. I’m so sorry.” I turned my phone on the record function and began to sing, making up a song as I went.
“Backseat serenade, dizzy hurricane. Oh, God, I’m sick of sleeping alone. You’re salty like a summer day. Kiss the sweat away to your radio. Backseat serenade, little hand grenade. Oh, aren’t you sick of sleeping alone? You’re salty like a summer day. Kiss the pain away to your radio.” I looked at him. That was good for a chorus. I’d have Jack help me with the other parts. “Please wake up, Jack,” I said quietly, hoping he would wake up. He didn’t. I sighed, stood up, and walked into the living room part of the bus.
“Guys, I think we need to take Jack to the hospital. He’s out cold,” I said in a shaky voice. Zack and Rian nodded. I saw Rian get up and go tell the driver to take us to the hospital. I sat on the couch by Zack. “Zack, it’s my fault. I got mad, and now he’s hurt.”
“Alex, it’s not your fault. You tried to save him.” I felt tears streaming down my face. My entire body was shaking violently. I didn’t notice the fact that Rian was back. I stood up and went to the bathroom. I couldn’t breathe, no matter how hard I tried. I got out my anxiety medicine and took two pills. It would be a while before it kicked in though. I looked through the cabinets, looking for the thing no one knew was hidden in there. I found it; the paper bag I used when my anxiety attacks got unbearable was on the shelf, just where I left it. I grabbed it and started breathing into it.
My breathing was extremely ragged. I fell to my knees. I began to sob loudly. Zack knocked onto the door to the bathroom. “Alex?” His voice was laced with concern. I couldn’t answer because my breathing was off, which made it difficult to talk. He entered the room and bent down beside me. I looked up at him, terror in my eyes. My attacks never usually lasted this long.
“Alex? Are you okay?” I shook my head, my breathing becoming even more ragged. Zack sat down beside me and began to rub my back. “Alex, you’re fine. Jack will be okay.” Zack’s face got closer to mine. Before I knew it, our lips were connected. I began to hyperventilate, and Zack wrapped his arms around me, murmuring for me to “calm down” into the kiss.
After a few minutes, my breathing went back to normal, though I was quickly out of breath. Zack broke the kiss and looked me in the eyes. “There we go. You’re calm now.” He put on his goofy smile and pulled me tighter into his arms. I felt awful because I was technically cheating on Jack, but Zack was, well, Zack. Zack leaned down and once again kissed me.
