I lay there completely still, each breath giving me sudden sharp pains through my head. I haven't been able to stop crying. Just silent tears have been constantly flowing down my cheeks. Its been an hour since bens dad had sewn up the wound and had left to go to his doctors practice, apparantely having to go deliver a baby or something. I wasn't really listening. My mind was too full of all the events from that day. Being unable to sleep made avoiding all of the shit I had to think about, well.... unavoidable.
I hear loud footsteps approaching from the hallway, and the door clicks open. A light creak from a floorboard pierces the silent room. I open my eyes to a slight squint as the light is switched on, I groan and roll over to avoid the light, forgetting that my bandage is on that side so I jolt back over and groan again.
"Sorry" A deep, warm voice whispers.
And then with a click the light is back off and I'm submerged back into blissful darkness.
I roll towards where the voice was coming from, hoping to god it wasn't who I thought it was.
"Hey Ben." I whisper,
As I see the glow from the light in the hallway bouncing off his chestnut brown hair, it's perfect waves a little messy and untamed.
"Hey. My dad told me to give you these on the hour, they're pain killers. Should numb the pain a bit. Here lift your head.."
He mumbles, as he places his strong warm arm under my head and raises me to a seated position.I open my eyes fully as I feel a glass of water being put in my hand. I give a weak smile as I place the pills onto my tongue and swallow a gulp of water. The cold water rinses over my dry mouth, which tastes bitter from blood and tears that have run into it throughout this hell of a day. I look back up to thank him, but he wasn't there anymore. The door was just a jar open, and all he left behind to even show he had been there, and I want just having some fever dream, was the sweet smell of his cologne.
I reach down onto the ground and grab my phone out of my pocket, and open it to see 12 missed calls. Four from my mum, and eight from Ashleen. Shit. What's the time? I peer at the bright screen as my eyes adjust fully.
'7:30 Pm'
BUGGER SHIT SHIT, I've been here for like 5 hours holy shit!
I dial the number for voicemail, because my inbox has got to be full from this many calls. Oh god this should be good...
"Where the hell are you! I looked for you after class and you weren't there. I waited for like 30 minutes, aren't we walking home together?' Anyways I'll be..."
Delete.
Okeeyyy. Apparantly Ashleens a bit salty that I wasn't there, oh god I'm nervous to listen to the others..."Jessica! I have rang you twice now! Why won't you answer? You were supposed to be home straight after school! Call me or.." Delete. That's 2 down.
"Jessica! It's Ashleen are you allright? Because I swear if you're not dead in a ditch somewhere I'm gonna fuc...."
Wow wow wow! Okay delete, Jeeze Ashleen! Well you weren't far off actually.
"JESSICA DUNCAN, IT IS YOUR MOTHER HERE!!Call me back or you're grounded for 2 weeks. At least text me if you're going to Ashleens house or something. Please ring me back NOW Jessica!"
I grimace, oh god that doesn't sound good. Of course she'd assume I'd just ditch her and go to Ashleens how rude. Well... I have done that before but Okay maybe I'll call mum.
I put in her number and press the dial key.
"Hi Jane Duncan here, Im unable to come to the phone right now but please leave a message after the tone"
Really mum. Really?
