Tonight was the night of the Mikealson's ball. I have been living with Elena and Jeremy for 2 weeks. I mainly stay in the house as it gets cold and I get sick easy. I was just putting in my dress and shoes.

I knew about vampires and all the supernatural stuff. My best friend was actually a vampire. I found out when he saved me once by giving me his blood. I also knew about the Mikealsons thanks to Elena filling me in. To be honest I kind of liked them even if I haven't meet them. I mean i meet Damon and Stefan Salvatore and Bonnie and Matt. I already knew Caroline. They were all nice but a little to boring for my taste.
"Harper are you ready?" I heard Elena call from downstairs. I looked in the mirror once more before answering.

"Yup" I yelled back and grabbed my coat.
"Remember to dress warm. It is getting cold" she replied.
"Yes mom"
I knew she was just looking out for me but I hate it. Ever since I was a child I have been in and out of hospital with a sickness. Til this day they can't figure out what it is. My parents got so sick of it that they stopped coming to the hospital with me and just paid for it. When I got released for the last time at 18 I went home to see my parents smiling and laughing with people I didn't know. I got no hug. No hello. No love. They said cause they got told multiple time that I could die they moved on.
After that I moved in with my best friend. His name is Mike. He is a vampire from 1956. He is a funny, loving and caring guy. He has always been there for me. He didn't like the idea of my going back to Mystic Falls without him but he would visit and vis verse.
When I was released from the hospital for the last time I was told not to push it. I know that if I take it to far that it could be a chance I will not come back. I didn't let it stop me. I could die at any moment and I wanted to live my life the way I wanted. I did what I wanted. . . Except for one thing. Falling in love.
Due to me not knowing when I was going to die I thought it best not to date so I didn't get attached. It sounds selfish but I just didn't want someone else I love watch me die. Elena and Jeremy were already like second parents the moment I arrived. Always fretting over me. Damon, Stefan and Caroline were no better.
"Harper, the ball is tonight not tomorrow" she yelled. I rolled my eyes but went down stairs and got in to the car she called. We gave the driver the address.
"You know Damon and Stefan are not going to be happy when you show up" I said.
"Yeah like you won't be in the shit either"
"They never told me I couldn't go" she didn't reply.
The one thing I didn't like about Elena was that when she didn't get what she wanted she basically throw a tantrum.
The rest of the car ride was silent.
We pulled up 10 minutes later and just looked at the house.

This was a mansion.
"Wow, it beautiful hey?" I asked Elena only to receive no reply. "Elena?" I looked to my left to be met with an empty spot. I looked at the mansion again to see her in and talking to Damon and Stefan. Yup, just leave me behind.
I walked to the house and let the lady take my coat. I looked up and it was even more beautiful on the inside. Stylish wallpaper, grand staircase, chandelier. It was gorgeous.
"Well I never thought our ball would bring such a magnificent creature" I heard a teasing voice.
I turned to be meet with a man that looked around my age. He had brown eyes and brown hair that was spewed to one side. One world to describe him. Gorgeous
"Kol Mikealson" he said as he kissed my hand. I felt a tingly go up my arm. "The most absolute pleasure" he finished as he gave me a boyish smile.
"Harper Gilbert. Pleasure is all mine" I said.
"A beautiful maiden such as yourself shouldn't be left alone"
"But I'm not alone. Unless you have somewhere you need to be?" I flirted.
"My night is free. Shall I give you a tour?" He asked as he linked my arm with his. Usually I hate men pushing there luck with me but with Kol, I rather enjoyed it.
