It was new year's eve, 2019 had come like a surprise and like the years before it, would be gone in the next sixty minutes, but that would end up being her perception, and her's alone as she stared down at the road that was now filling up with people who celebrated and anticipated the birth of the new year, with high hopes and aspirations they awaited impatiently for it as they looked forward to the end of this one, they hugged and kissed and their laughs reminded her of the things she had hated remembering, different families as they stood together in the warmth and embrace of one another, she could see the children in their winter clothes as they laughed and played with rolled balls of snow, this wasn't her first time being in Paris, but it would be the first time she had to kill anyone here, he should have been here twenty minutes ago, not really because she didn't have time, she had more than enough of that, an eternity to live and hate and kill and exist, it wasn't going anywhere, as she pushed away the thought of eternity and her existence she looked again at the road that flooded with pedestrians and passing cars, none of the cars suited the plate number of her target, he didn't know about the plan and even if he did suspect anything, he wouldn't send a decoy to seal a deal as important as this one, again she scopped the surrounding areas for anything remotely close to her target, until the cries of a child pulled her attention away from her search, she immediately adjusted the telescope from her eyes and looked in the direction of the crying child, who was now on the ground, her hair covered in snow, while a lady, most likely the child's mother rushed to her rescue, the girl's cry was heart breaking, but that was normal, the abnormal part was how much she could actually relate to it, sixteen years had passed after the tragic incident that changed her life and turned her into the monster she now was, and come the next few minutes she would kill again, it was foolish to day dream of a life she had lost years ago, apart from the family she now had, the world only knew her as a corpse, as history, she was long forgotten, a mystery, a walking dead.
As she looked at the child, she realized something more suspicious, and fixed the telescope back on her eyes, a trail of corporately dressed men advanced through the crowd, into the building behind them, aside the dark ora of their appearance, she could see they had a couple of their own fire power, and finally, a separate one from the flock, the alpha male, dressed in a white winter coat, suit and pants emerged, he was the one she was after, the luxury and his importance oozed about him, he was fearless, fierce, his countenance didn't settle for anything less, he trailed behind the pedestrians like a lamb, walking at the very centre of his group, his pack, Dominic Sure had the appearance of a normal man, but just like her he was one of the most dangerous creatures on the planet, there wasn't time to lose, she flung the telescope away from her hands as it landed noisily on the ground, and then reached for her rifle that stood only few inches away from her, her aim had always been impeccable and she was confident that this wouldn't be any different, as she raised the gun with both hands, having successful secured the target, she was ready to shoot, she peered through the hole mark, one eye closed, her target in her sight, she cocked the trigger and with a deep breath, not like she needed it, adjusted her hand on the trigger, but stopped at the last minute, the child that fell on the snow earlier had bump into Dominic and she was right in front of him." Come on, move away little girl " she whispered, her eyes still locked on him.
" Sorry " the little girl whimpered
Dominic only stared at the innocent child and squatted in front of her, as he began to pick the items she dropped when she ran into him.
" Thank you sir "
". It's okay, where are your parents ? "
" Over there " she pointed
" Okay, run along then " he instructed.
The child had prevented her from pulling the trigger before, but now it was certain, Dominic had to die, she owed it to the human world, to Drex, and most importantly she owed it to her parents, without a second thought she released the bullet, it cut through the air, the darkness and the laughs of the crowed, a silent assassination, an impending victory, it felt like she moved with the bullet, as her attention rested solely on it while it travelled to it's destination, she couldn't slow down the speed of things, but her own speed made it look like she could, she felt her hands tense, her eyes peeled for the satisfaction she'd get from seeing him reel, this would end her sorrow, as she watched it fly, only an inch or two, and it would all be over, but at the last minute, she witnessed yet another disappointment, one of the oldest in the pack had already seen the bullet, he caught it in mid air and crushed it to powder right before her eyes, he had spotted her, and he was coming for her, warewolves were known for many things, but their rage and hunger topped all that, this was a mature one, he would most likely be the strongest she had ever fought, and from the looks on his face he was more than ready to tear her to pieces.
