" Patient is female, middle aged, African descent, she was involved in a car accident, has lost a lot of blood and her pulse is weakening by the second " one of the surgeons declared.

" Anything broken ? " asked the head surgeon, who was a man in his early forty's, as his surgical team formed a circle around the patient, they had what medical terms would refer to as a mystery case, the middle aged woman who laid barely concious on the bed was Victoria Adin, wife of Alex Adin, he had died in the accident, suffered mutiple fractures, but the main cause of his death had been internal bleeding, the couple along with their daughter had planned to have a family dinner together that evening, as Alex only returned from his business trip barely two days ago, the man as his wife had always put it was a workaholic, he was willing to give it his last breath before he allowed any opportunity that would be of benefit to his family pass him by, Alex was a good man, a good husband, and a good father, he didn't deserve such a painful death, and neither did his wife, but death had no pity, he would take her anyway, the only thing that stood in the way of that now was one of Lagos's best team of surgeons, under the co-ordination and guidance of Obafemi Asije, the group had made ground breaking records, and earned the recommendation of best team of surgeons that year, Obafemi had immediately flown in from Abuja when news of the brutal accident that had befallen the Adin's got to him, no one else knew the reason why such a respected and reputable surgeon had cancelled his appointment, and rushed down to the aid of this patient, the simple reason had to have begun years ago, when Adin had saved Obafemi from what would have claimed his life, the poor boy was dying from strangulated hernia, as his family barely struggled to feed, and when no one else offered help, Adin had volunteered to help, and had secured the bills with his tuition fee, Obafemi had felt a strong love for him ever since then, and even though he had not been able to save his best friend, he was going to pull heaven and earth to save his wife.

As they raced against time, the chances of Victoria's survival dwindled even more, the surgeons tried their best but there was too much blood, it prevented them from seeing anything, even though the likely cause might have been a puncture they still needed to locate it if they were going to save her life, Obafemi wasn't ready to give in just yet, he had his equipments in his hand and widened the incision they had made to locate the puncture, but nothing seemed to be working, and her face had grown pale, worse than when she had earlier been brought to the hospital, he could not contain the guilt or the thought of not being able to save her, he glanced at the EKG where Victoria's heart beat had suddenly slowed down, the beeps made his ears tinge and the sight of the smaller graphs pinched him like a needle.

He took another look at the thoracotomy he had created, and at Victoria's chest that now filled with blood, the lungs hadn't been damaged and neither was her heart, but something else was killing her, something he couldn't spot or define, twenty years in the field and this had been his toughest yet, he had employed all his skills and experiences, but none of that seemed to matter anymore, unless they located the cause of the bleeding, Victoria would inevitably bleed to death.

The barely audible beeps of the EKG accompanied by a younger surgeons loud cry brought Obafemi back to the reality.

" We're loosing her sir! " he shouted.

" Heart rate has dropped immensely sir, she's going into shock " said another female surgeon.

" Come on Vikky, help me out here, " Obafemi pleaded, as he whispered his thoughts, his gaze locked on Victoria's chest and the pool of blood that filled it, as he glanced again at the EKG, "

" We're losing her sir ! " another one of the surgeons yelled.

" Come on Vikky, " he pleaded again as he probbed deeper into her chest, " come on "
