Chapter 2
Finally, I hear the music stop. I take my headphones off with the biggest smile on my face before joining Alex and Mark in the other room. Alex rests a hand on my shoulder as we watch Mark hit a button to play the song back. The day after I signed with Galaxy Records, Alex asked me out; wanting to give him a chance, I said yes.
The song I recorded is an original song I had just finished, "I Just Wanna Run." I had sent a copy of the lyrics and a recording on my keyboard at home to Alex so he could give it to his dad, and the following day I received a call from him saying that he loved it and wanted to record it in the studio.
I listen to the intro playing, and I recognize the moment when the lyrics start. I listen to the playback while staring nervously at my hands.
I just wanna run, hide it away
Run because they're chasing me down
I just wanna run, throw it away
Run before they're finding me out
I just wanna runYeah, I just wanna run
I just wanna run
I'm out here all alone
I try to call your house
Can't reach you on the phone
I'll gather up the nerve
I'm packing up my bags
It's more than you deserve
Don't treat me like a dragI'm feelin' like I keep on talking,
I'm repeating myself
My words lost all meaning
I keep talking
I repeat myselfI just wanna run, hide it away
Run because they're chasing me down
I just wanna run, throw it away
Run before they're finding me out
I just wanna run
I just wanna runLike a game of chess
I predict your move
I think I know you better
Better than you do
I'm sick of feeling cheap
Cheated and abused
Sick of losing sleep
Thinking about youI'm feelin' like I keep on talking
I'm repeating myself,
My words lost all meaning
I keep talking
I repeat myselfI just wanna run, hide it away
Run because they're chasing me down
I just wanna run, throw it away
Run before they're finding me out
I just wanna run
Yeah, I just wanna run,I just wanna run, hide it away
Run because they're chasing me down
I just wanna run, throw it away
Run before they're finding me out, outI just wanna run, hide it away
Run because they're chasing me down
I just wanna run, throw it away
Run before they're finding me outI just wanna run
Yeah, I just wanna run
I just wanna runWhen the music stops, I gaze across to the other side of the room to see Alex and Mark's reactions. My heart begins to race with excitement when I see that they're both smiling up at me. Alex gestures for me to join them again, so I hang my headphones on the mic stand and eagerly leave the recording booth to hear their thoughts.
When I sit in the chair beside Mark, Alex shows me a wide grin and exclaims, "It's amazing, Madalyn! How did you write that?"
