" Please, " Jonah whined, following me around like a puppy. He wanted me to forgive him for lying to me.
I guess I already forgave him the minute he came over to my house at 6 am and made pancakes for me. He had sneaked into my house with the help of my little sister.
But I still hadn't told him that I forgive him.
" Okay, " I say.
" REALLY!" he perks up. He is like a golden retriever sometimes.
I nod.
He pulls me in a tight hug. I immediately relax into his embrace.
" I promise I'll make it up to you, " he tells me staring deep into my eyes.
He pulls away from the hug and I felt cold.
" Okay, " I say again.
" Stop replying in monosyllables it makes me think you're still angry, " he pouts.
I want to hug him, again.
" I am not angry Jonah...just upset that you lied to me," I tell him.
"I am sorry, " he whispers and looks down in shame.
" It's okay, " I take his hands and rub my thumb over his wrist.
He says when I do this, it calms him.
He smiles at me.
" So do you like Heather?" I ask. It took so much courage to ask this question because I already knew the answer. But I needed to hear him say it.
" Yes, " he mumbles shyly and blushes.
Hearing him say it out loud made my deepest fear come to life...
Heather makes him blush, she makes him happy, be happy for him..I repeat it in my head over and over again.
So I smile and mask the hurt.
" Okay, that's good," I say.
Even though it was the worst for me.
