Mr. Jaejin hummed in deep thought, jotting down notes now and then during Yeojun's recount. Yeonjun hated the fact that Sunwoo had escaped and wasn't suffering any sort of consequence whilst Soobin was lying injured in a hospital bed. The memory of their leader being stabbed kept replaying in his mind over and over again like a broken record. He felt so helpless watching Soobin lose consciousness and didn't know what to do to make things better. He failed to protect everyone and now Soobin had gotten hurt due to his recklessness. The last time they had properly spoken, it had escalated into an argument. He wanted to apologize to Soobin and set things right between them which was what he had planned to do when he thought they were going to visit Soobin but instead his manager had taken him here to see a private detector.
"Anything else that you remember or is this it?" The middle-aged man gruffly asked, a cigarette between his lips and his eyebrows furrowed whilst reading over his notes. The bitter aroma of tobacco entering his nostrils and causing him to let out a cough. Mr. Jaejin glanced over at him with an apologetic expression before taking out the cigarette and dropping it onto the ashtray on the coffee table.
Yeonjun's coughing simmered down as he cleared his throat. "Yeah, that's all I remember. Everything else is a blur."
Mr. Jaejin breathed out a heavy sigh, laying back against the chair. "I guess this is helpful enough."
Yeonjun stared down at his hands tightly clasped in his lap. "Are you sure you'll be able to find him and what are you planning to do when you do?"
The black-haired man was silent for a moment. He ran his hand down his face. "Well, I can't promise that I'll find him since he's on the run now but if I do then he'll be questioned and we'll find the knife that he used and then arrest him."
Yeonjun processed these words, a small sigh of relief escaping his lips. He didn't want Sunwoo to get away with what he did. No one deserves to get away with nearly taking away a human life. The mere thought that Soobin could have died sends a chill down his spine. Everyone would have been devastated. The fans, his family, the members and the staff. Yeonjun wouldn't have been able to live with himself if it had really happened.
"Are you going to question my other members?" Yeonjun asked, looking up to lock eyes with Mr. Jaejin.
Mr. Jaejin slowly averted his gaze, his expression grim. "I don't really need to. Your statement is enough to go through with the investigation."
Yeonjun blinked at him in confusion, not expecting that answer. "Wait, I can tell the others right?"
"You can but your manager would prefer it if you kept it between yourselves and didn't tell your fans what happened. It'll only make matters worse," Mr. Jaejin explained, standing up from the couch. "I think that's enough for today. I'll take you back to the car."
Yeonjun nodded, following after the man as he escorted him out of the house. They walked over to the car where his manager Jaehyuk was leaning against the car door, his hands folded against his chest. Noticing two people walking over to him, he gently pushed himself off the car door and expectantly stared at Mr. Jaejin.
"He's given me a statement and the investigation will be able to begin. Tell your boss that," Mr. Jaejin informed him.
Jaehyuk replied with a brief nod, placing a hand on Yeonjun's shoulder when he came to stand next to him. "I will, thank you for your help."
Yeonjun and his manager both politely bowed before he got into the passenger seat of the car and silently watched his manager and Mr. Jaejin exchange a few words with serious expressions through the car window.
He felt awful and conflicted for not being able to update his fans about the situation and what was going on, especially with Soobin being in the hospital. After all, they had every right to know about the situation. He couldn't comprehend how deceiving the fans would do them any good. Wouldn't they soon start to worry when they don't see Soobin during upcoming performances or fansigns? They had just finished promoting their debut song and were now soon making a comeback. The fans would be disappointed upon finding out that their leader wouldn't be able to participate in their comeback.
His manager got into the car and shut the door after parting with Mr. Jaejin, who walked back into the house with his hands stuffed in his pockets.
"Can I go visit Soobin now? I just want to see if he's doing okay," Yeonjun meekly asked, gazing out the window as the car started up.
"Yeah, we can go and visit him but it'll be quick because I have to pick up the others and take them to see him as well," Jaehyuk said.
Yeonjun suddenly remembered that their manager had told the other members that they were going to visit Soobin and now he felt even more guilty. He left them on a bad note and wasn't sure how things were going to be once he saw all of them again.
"I don't know why they would lie to us though," Taehyun quietly muttered, seated on the only chair in the room whilst the other two sat on either side of the hospital bed.
Beomgyu shook his head in disapproval. "Something strange is going on and we need to get to the bottom of it."
Soobin fiddled with his fingers, softly smiling. "I know that Yeonjun hyung wanted to visit me and wouldn't have easily changed his mind."
Huening Kai noticed the small smile on his face, hastily looking away as he tried to ignore the familiar pang he felt in his chest. He didn't want to let his jealousy blind him into doing stupid things anymore. That's how they got into this mess in the first place. All he needed to do was be the best support for Soobin and the others as much as he could.
"Maybe manager hyung took him to get food first?" Huening Kai suggested, trying to diffuse the anger spewing from the other members.
Soobin pouted, visibly deflating. "So food is more important than visiting me."
Beomgyu rolled his eyes, raising an eyebrow at the brown-haired boy. "As if that would be true."
Taehyun sat up, a thoughtful expression resting on his face. "Besides, I don't think-"
Before he could finish his sentence, the door opened to reveal Dr. Kim, their manager, and Yeonjun.
Everyone's eyes widened as they stared at each other in shock and puzzlement. Dr. Kim's smile fell off her face, her eyes flickering back and forth between everyone in confusion.
"What the.." Yeonjun breathed out, frozen in shock.
