Half and Half

Part 2 - The Unit

"Where are we going?" asked Minhyun, this time aloud.

 "To the command center," Armstrong replied.

"Why?"

"I'm not sure, Sergeant Zain. I have orders from the Fuhrer himself to bring you to his office." Minhyun looked out the window, "The Fuhrer? What does he want with me?" he thought. They got to the command center and Major Armstrong led him to the Fuhrer's office. His father was sitting in a chair across from the Fuhrer. He saluted. "Sergeant Zain, come sit. I need to tell you something," said the Fuhrer. "Why did he need to tell us at the command center? He could've come to our house like he usually does. I mean, he is my mother's brother," thought Minhyun. He sat down next to his father and said, "yes sir."

"This morning, after you left to train, a group of Drachman spies invaded your house and captured your mother. We believe they are holding her as a hostage, as she is my sister. I'm taking this as an opportunity to declare war on Drachma." War, that was inevitable.

"No one caught the spies, sir?"

"No one witnessed it and we were unable to find anyone"

"Then how do you know she was captured"

"They left a note saying they would only give her back if I surrendered Xing"

"You wouldn't surrender. It's not like you cared for her anyway." He went too far. "Watch yourself, Sergeant Zain," said the Fuhrer. He stood up and bowed towards him, saying "It won't happen again." His father hadn't said a word until now, "Thank you for doing everything you could, your excellency." Minhyun's father got up. "You'll have to excuse us." Minhyun saluted and then turned towards the door. "Wait, Zain. I do have some good news for you. You have been promoted to 2nd Lieutenant under Colonel Roy Mustang," said the Fuhrer. Minhyun turned around, "I've been promoted, sir?"

"Yes, Colonel Mustang was having troubles with 2nd Lieutenant Baws so we shifted him over to the new Colonel and are having you replace him."

"That's great to hear, thank you sir."

"Of course. You have proven yourself to be useful, 2nd Lieutenant Zain." Minhyun saluted and left the office with his father. His father broke into tears on the way home. "Father, I will get my mother back. I swear on my life. I will keep training until I find a way to bring her back, because the Fuhrer certainly doesn't care," Minhyun said. His father looked at him and said, "I knew you would say that. You're just as strong as your mother, and twice as loyal." The next day, Minhyun went to his new post under Colonel Mustang and met his new unit. Minhyun learned that Sergeant Kain Fuery was a tech-nerd with a kind heart, Warrant Officer Vato Falman was highly intelligent, 2nd Lieutenant Jean Havoc was strong and determined, 1st Lieutenant Riza Hawkeye was incredibly gifted with a gun, Warrant Officer Heymans Breda speaks a ton of languages, and Colonel Roy Mustang was a bit cocky and very ambitious. It was hard, but Minhyun adjusted to not having his mother around. He had a new goal, to get his mother back. His father wasn't faring as well as he was, but he was doing okay. He got along well with his new unit, he was finding his place within it. The war had begun and the colonel sent him on several missions and most were successful. A week after his promotion, the rich kids tried jumping him while he was training in the forest. Minhyun knew this was going to happen eventually and was prepared. He jumped out of the way and let them run into each other. "You're paying for that one half and half!" screamed 2nd Lieutenant Baws' older son. He ran at him and tried to punch Minhyun, but he grabbed his arm and sent the Master Sergeant flying. He knocked two of the rich kids to the ground and kneed another. He kicked Joshua and knocked the last kid down. "Listen here, I'm done being your punching bag. Tell your fathers, what do I care? If you come after me ever again I will make sure you and your father's pay," Minhyun said as he turned to leave.
