As the clock chimed at 4, the lecturer dismissed the class that David and Dawson were in. After class they went to the cafe and spoke about the competition, they discussed things that were happening including that it was only 11 days until the end of the competition.
They were sitting in silence working on an essay that was due the following Monday when Dawson suddenly asked David "Do you want to visit their graves?". David nodded and they shut their laptops, quickly finished their coffee and headed out of the cafe. "Flowers?." David said as they exited the cafe. "We will need flowers." David added. Dawson nodded and quietly said "Yeah" as they walked to Davids car.
On the way to the graveyard they stopped at the supermarket, they choose a bouquet of flowers each and a solar light to put at their gravesides. Dawson picked a colour changing butterfly light and a bouquet of flowers that included roses and sunflowers, vibrant pinks and yellows and oranges. David picked a colour changing string of bulb shaped lights and a bouquet of flowers that included daisies and roses, vibrant pinks and yellows are oranges too.
They drove another couple of minutes and arrived at the graveyard. They hadn't been there since the funeral, they couldn't face it, not when one of the girls might come back. Neither of them wanted to visit their graves (which were next to each other) because they didn't want to believe that it was real, that both of them wouldn't come back, or that one or both of them were going to get their heart broken in a matter of days.
As they pulled up at the side of Maya and Alis graves unbeknown to them Maya and Ali were standing there next to their graves. Dawson waited in the car as David paid his respects first. He went to Alis grave and laid the the light next to the grave and placed the flowers in the holder. He then spoke to the both of them, hoping that they were listening, tears began once again to fall down his face. "Hi, you two. I really hope you are okay. I wish more than anything that you could both come home. But you can't, maybe one of you might come home. I miss you both so much, and Maya I didn't know you very well but Ali spoke about you a lot. And Dawson has spoken so much about you, even though we haven't really gotten to know each other I know a lot about you and i love you as a friend. Please come home, both of you." He got up sobbing and got back into the car. He turned and nodded to Dawson.
Dawson got out of the car and walked over to Mayas grave where he placed the light and flowers down, then he spoke to the girls. "Hey, we miss you so much. We love you so much and I really wish that you could both be here and that you could both come back. But you can't, maybe one of you might be able to but we... I need to accept that. I don't know how because I love you both. Always remember that.". He got up sobbing much like David and returned to the car.
They both sat in silence in the car for another couple of minutes. David started the car, ready to drive home. "Pub?" Dawson suddenly asked. David nodded and they drove off in the direction of the pub. They arrived and went in, both them decided to settle for a couple of diet cokes. They sat down at a table near a window and spoke about their proof for the competition. David showed Dawson the book of memorabilia of all of their dates. He began explaining all of their dates and when they all were, he told him everything about the dates. He then showed him the notebook in which all of the letters he and Ali had sent to each other. On each page he wrote the date on the top of the page. David then asked Dawson to show him the album and what songs were on the playlist. Dawson showed him the album and the mini summary of what each of the pictures represented written next to the picture. He showed him all of the songs that will be on the playlist once he is finished it and he explained in greater detail why each one was on the playlist.
They discussed their plans for the next couple of days in general and regarding their projects and around 10pm and 4 pints of coke later they drove home. They headed their separate ways as always, Dawson to his room and David to the sofa and as soon as their heads hit the pillow they fell asleep.
