We Are The Roses

Part 14 --

A couple days had gone past and Dae was lying in her bed with a damp cloth placed on her forehead. The God of Nova walked into the room and came and sat next to her bed. "How could this be? We cannot die" she asked him. "It is very rare although it is possible. I have spoke with the others and we have realised that you are passing on because there is someone else here that is worthy of you place." He replied. She lay there in silence. "Worthy?" she shouted, which then lead to a coughing fit. He looked at her sadly and then spoke softly "Yes, they will become the new God or Goddess of this castle and of life and death when you pass away.". He held her hand and continued as he saw tears beginning to flow down her face, "You were always dear to me, when I was elected as God of Nova I chose you to be the Goddess of life and death because you know everything.". "I know, you have told me that story a million times now." she said with a smile. "And I won't stop telling it even after you are gone." He said with a warm smile. She smiled as she said "You should go, you have other duties other than sitting holding the hand of a sick person.". "Okay then, remember the 20 we eliminated last night are gone now.". "I remember. There are only 40 left. I'm dying not stupid." She said as she giggled to herself. She raised her hand and pointed to the door. "Go." she said quietly. He got up and walked to the door, before he left he turned around and said with a smile "I will be back later." before walking out of her door.

In the cafeteria the 40 remaining people were sitting in circle discussing the next 4 days. Maya and Ali remained quiet throughout the discussion and they just listened to everyone speaking about how they would feel if they got sent to Beverstone Castle to become a guardian. Some people were happy to go there because it was better than waiting to see if you got to go home, and it might be fun. Some people wished that they could go home more than anything.  Many people didn't know how to feel anymore, about anything, about Nova. Nothing made sense to some people and the topic quickly changed to Daes death. The mood changed from neutral to sad. Everyone spoke of how amazing Dae was and how she is a great Goddess and that no one can run the castle better than her. Maya looked over at Ali and noticed that she was visibly upset. She took her hand and led her upstairs. 

They went to Mayas room and Maya made two hot chocolates. Sitting on Mayas bed drinking in silence suddenly Ali began to cry heavily. "I can't believe she is dying." Ali said as she dropped her head more. "Yeah." Maya replied as she hugged her. "It's just all too real. I'm scared, she doesn't deserve to die Maya. No one deserves to die.". Ali said as she lay down on the bed. "I know" Maya replied as she lay down beside her.

In Dawson's house him and David were sitting in the kitchen talking more about Maya and Ali and what may happen next. "I can't believe that it is 4 days away." Dawson said. "I know." David replied. There was silence for a couple of minutes and then Dawson asked "Who do you think will make it back?". There was another pause and David spoke softly and quietly "Maya." Dawson was shocked, and immediately asked why. "Because you were together longer, you were high school sweethearts. You were engaged, shurly that puts your relationship before mine and Ali's."  "NO." Dawson shouted, "That's not how it works."  Just because we were together longer doesn't mean that we are more in love then you two. Never think that David. There is hope.". Dawson said lowering his voice. David nodded and left the room. He went through to the guest bedroom and sat on the bed, this was the first time he had gone into that room since Ali had passed away. 

Dawson heard the door creakily open and stood up to go through, but he didn't go. He left David alone because he knew he needed to be alone at that moment. He walked through to the living room as quietly as he could and lay down on the sofa. After just a couple of minutes they were both sleeping.

Maya and Ali were lying sleeping on top of Mayas bed when the speakers buzzed with static once more and Ali and Mayas names were called. They woke up and went to the window. They looked through and saw both of their men sleeping. They looked at each other and Maya took Ali's hand and took her to see Dae. 

When they went into the room they saw Dae lying in her bed. "Hi". Maya softly said careful not to startle her. "Hello?" Dae said as she could not see who was there. Ali began to speak "It is Maya and Ali. We have came to see you, to tell you we are sorry that this has happened. You don't deserve this. No one does, not you..." "Ali." Maya snapped as she gave her a look of anger. "Oh sorry." Ali replied. "It is fine. Thank you, both of you. That means a lot. I shall see you later." Dae said as she closed her eyes again. Maya and Ali took this as a sign to leave. They walked out of her room and headed to the cafe.
