There was a large crowd, quickly forming. Civilians and those who were actually there for the new job that opened up for the new king. Their previous ruler had been assassinated, so the kingdom was still grieving if anything. He was old, the man everyone knew fondly as Toshinori was gone. It was still a hard truth to bare. The new king was young, yes, but there were happy rumors going around that he was big and strong, level headed and majestic, everything a perfect king was. So no one was worrying, everyone trying to get over what had happened to their old ruler.
This was now. Not the past. They shouldn't dwell on it.. Right? Despite their king already being crowned, there was no ceremony. No one really knew why, but now that he was coming out for the first time to the public eye to pick a new guard, everyone was trying to get a peek at him.
The men trying out for the position all stood in the courtyard, laughing along with each other or having friendly sword fights with harmless sticks or casting minor spells back and forth, just like teenagers if anything, trying to show off to get chosen.
Magic was hard to come by, not many people practicing it and when they did, it was hard to understand and get down. Not a lot of people were strong with magic.
Then there was those who sat at the side and watched everyone else... except one who kept his eyes down, leaning against a tree in the back of the crowd.
There was a trumpet after a few more minutes, everyone perking up and looking over at the doors. Their king! Finally showing his face for the first time!
They opened wide slowly, anticipation heavy in the air as everyone's gaze was glued to the same place. You could only see two maids before hearing little soft footsteps on the castle floor and finally a figure appeared.
A-
A very small figure at that.
It was a child! Green eyes and hair, curly with freckles all over his rosie cheeks. He wore a large crown with a big red cape with white fluff under it and a staff with a big heel on top. It was actually his fathers so it was only right that he used it as well.
As he kept walking the boy smiled. "Have no fear, for your king is-ack!"
He had tripped on his own cape, falling on the ground. Crown falling off his head with a clack and making a sound of discomfort before making a pouty face as he got up, the maids making a big fuss over the little king. His crown being returned and everyone waiting for the tears to burst out though it looked like the boy had swallowed them down and carried on like nothing happened.
"I am here now, you all have skill. But only one of you will pass this test. And make no mistake, it won't be...."
He seemed to look at his hand for a few seconds before looking back up. "Easy. Carry on men!"
The boy trotted over to the garden gazibo, sitting down for tea and cake. Munching happily as everyone collectively thought 'Ah, it makes sense now.' As to why he would need a body guard.
They kept sparring, though of course talking about how their new king was a literal ten year old.
Some wandered over to talk to him, being friendly and strong looking. Though really only one person even succeeded at half of a conversation before Izuku got distracted by a butterfly.
It fluttered all around before landing on someone's shoulder to rest, Izuku stopped shortly after to look at the person. Though it looked like they were napping at the moment, Izuku tiptoeing closer and closer before poking said persons cheek.
"Are you dead?"
He somewhat flinched, looking up with shockingly beautiful blue eyes. "Hm?"
This dude didn't even seem to have paid attention, not recognizing this kid as his king.
Izuku seemed to gape. This mans eyes..were even more blue than the butterflies. And just like all kids, when seeing something nice or pretty they wanted it.
"You...have really pretty eyes~" he said with a smile before walking away, tripping on his cape again but didn't fall.
He stared after in utter confusion before spotting the kid's crown and blinked. Was... was that the king?
An hour passed before the trumpets were played again and Izuku was the center of attention again. Having to stand on some books to make sure everyone could see him.
"I have chosen who I want as my bodyguard!" He said rather proudly. Everyone whispering about who it could be until the young boy used his staff to point.
"The man with the pretty blue eyes!"
You could imagine everyone's confusion.
It was quiet as no one answered for a moment before someone just as confused as everyone else started to walk up to where Izuku stood.
"Aha, there you are. On your knees." He ordered, being given a large sword which was quite heavy to him. But he could hold it. Probably.
The man was very concerned. "..right..."
A small boy with a heavy and sharp sword was trying to knight him, maybe he was going to get his head chopped off, but eh.
He got onto his knees in front of him, bowing his head.
"With this sword I shall dub thee my knight, for your duty is to protect me with your love from here on out."
"Life, your majesty." A maid whispered from the side.
"Life!" He corrected himself.
Giggles from the crowd could be heard.
Izuku picked up the sword, shaking pointing it to both of the mans shoulders before putting it down with a huff, one of the maid bringing over a pendent. Izuku taking it and attaching it to the mans shirt.
He swallowed thickly. This king didn't even know this man's name.
"You May stand, and the rest of you can return home. Though all of your efforts were greatly appr...appro..aprigiated, aprogged..apprehend.."
"..appreciated?" His new guard offered.
"Appreciated!"
Everyone couldn't help but sigh at tiny Kings cuteness and lack of words.
"My king, it's time for your afternoon nap."
"Awwwwww~!" The boy whined, pouting and looked up at his new knight. "Ah, I never got your name."
"..Touya." This man never said more then one word in a sentence so far. Never smiling, never frowning, looking completely indifferent...this was happening.
