Chapter 10: Day After

Garrett POV:

I woke up with a familiar yet unfamiliar feeling in my chest. I felt happy and extremely giddy. I couldn’t help but replay the event that happened just a few hours ago. I asked Delilah Rivers to be my girlfriend, and she said yes. Honestly, this had to be one of the best decisions I’ve made in a while.

It didn’t feel real at all and I’m glad we didn’t have school for the rest of the week. I don’t think I’d be able to focus even if I tried. All I would end up thinking about is my beautiful new girlfriend. I already spaced out for a few minutes until I heard “Come on Eileen” blasting… I forgot to switch my alarm off but at least I know what time it is. 7:30, an absolutely absurd time to be up when there was no school. I calculated how many hours of sleep I got and it wasn’t nearly enough. I dropped Delilah off around 2:00, and then we stayed up talking till about 5:00. I only got 2 ½ hours of sleep. I am surprised I’m here thinking clearly.

I guess there’s really no point in trying to go back to sleep since now my mind is running. As I got up to leave I heard my phone ring once more but this time it was Ernie Halter’s “Something Beautiful”, it was Delilah calling.

“Good morning, Beautiful” I answered still sounding a bit groggy.

“Why hello there Mr. I sound dark and sexy” she said laughing

I can sense a change in confidence when she talks to me now and I couldn’t be happier that she’s comfortable talking to me after these months. “Well I just woke up but if you like how I sound now, I’ll be sure to bring this voice back regularly” I said teasingly. “Now what did you need this wondrous but early morning?”

“Nothing really, I just had trouble sleeping since all I could think about was you.” She stated simply. Sure she sounded cool and calm but I would bet good money that she was blushing.

“Princess you’re all I’ve thought about as well, would you like to grace me with your presence and come to my house today?”

“Yeah I would love to but around 1:30 my parents are going away again. You can pick me up at 2 or you can come earlier to bid my parents a farewell.”

“They are leaving already? Didn’t they just get home? But yeah, I’ll drop by early.”

“Yeah they did but their business requires a lot of traveling so it’s okay, I guess. I’ve gotten used to it.” She said with a little less conviction.

I knew this affected her more than she let on but now I’m going to make it my responsibility to make sure she never feels lonely.

“Hey don’t worry I’ll be here with you from now on.” I said to assure her that this wasn’t just a temporary thing.

“I know you will be.” I could basically hear her smile through the words.

“Oh and by the way we’re gonna tell them we are official. Kay see you at 1:00 babe, bye!”

Before I could reply she hung up the phone and left me to the pleasant sound of the dial tone. She just called me babe. I love the way that easily rolled off her tongue. But wait… Did she say we were going to tell her parents we’re official? Great! Now it’s really time for me to prepare and give them the best second impression ever!

---------------------------------------

A few hours had passed and I got ready to make myself presentable for Delilah’s parents. I only have a few chances to impress them since they are constantly away, so each moment is an important one. I know the first time didn’t go as smoothly seeing as I walked right into their house practically yelling. This time had to be close to perfect.

12:40, I should head out now but first I had to double check my “perfect for your daughter” attire. White button down, black jeans, all black vans, and of course my leather jacket. I think I might be a little overdressed but I’m thinking about surprising Delilah with a date afterwards. Now, I would bring a car to meet them but parents had it and there was no other choice but my bike.

I arrived at Delilah’s house exactly at 1 and this time I remembered to knock on the door.

“I’ll get it” I heard Delilah yell. Hearing her put an automatic smile on my face and when she opened the door I couldn’t help but pull her into a warm embrace.

“Why don’t you look lovely darling” she said in a terrible British accent.

“Thanks darling, I dress to impress.” She raised an eyebrow at me.

“Your parents, Delilah, I want them to like me.” I said as I placed a quick kiss on her cheek.

“Well alright then, let’s get this show on the road.” She said shutting the door.

As we walked further into the house, I was met by both her parents sitting on the couch. Now is the time, Garrett, you can do this!

“Hello Mr. and Mrs. Rivers, it’s nice to meet you again” I nervously said while shaking their hands. The first time I wasn’t nervous since we went actually dating but now that we were, I had the extra motivation to impress. I needed to go for gold.

Her father was the first to speak.

“Ah yes, you’re the boy who calls our daughter Princess.”

I cleared my throat, “Yes sir that is me. To me, your daughter resembles a princess. She’s beautiful and kind and she deserves the best.” I said smiling down at her.

I noticed her blush and then I nudged her to speak.

“Mom and dad, you know I love you and since you’re always away there’s really no reason for me to hide things from you. So uh, this is Garrett Michaels, my boyfriend.”

My gaze went back to her parents and they looked back at us wide eyed. I noticed the clock behind them and realized it was now 1:30 and they had to leave. Delilah looked up at me and winked. Oh Delilah, aren’t you clever. Less time to interrogate, not I have to wait weeks! Such a shame. HA!

“Oh dear we are going to be late!” her mother said, but before she left she surprisingly gave me a hug and said “please take care of my daughter.”

“Don’t worry ma’am, I promise.”

She then let go and proceeded to the car. Next was her father. “Well son, if my daughter let you past her tremendously strong and stubborn people barrier I suppose there’s something about you I could like.” Delilah went to give him a hug and walked him out the door. As they pulled out the driveway her dad stuck his head out and yelled “you’ll undergo detailed questioning when we get back!” I let out a huge sigh.

Once they were out of sight Delilah ran up to me and I caught her into another hug. “Did I pass the test?”

“With flying colors” she answered with a kiss.

“I can’t explain how relieved I am that they approve, now go get ready. We are going on an adventure.”
