Beatrice's POV
Warm hands engulfed me in a bear hug. I giggled like the school girl I am.
"Mummy! Stop it!" I gasped for air and managed to choke out. "Sweetie, tell me who your crush is then" Mummy continued tickling , laughing along. "No, mummy stop!" I giggled and tried to wriggle out of my mummy's grasp but to no avail.
"Say it or I'm going to tickle you harder!" Mummy warned me in a faked threatening tone.
"Daddy! Help me..." I reached out to daddy.
Daddy then proceeded to make dinosaur voices and started tickling mummy
"Have you even heard half a word I said Beatrice?" the surgeon also known as my mother glared at me. "Yes mother." I replied softly.
"What did you say?" she enquired, raising her eyebrows.
"I said yes mother." This time I said it a little louder.
"Go back to the reception desk. Your school work is waiting for you." my mother pointed at my work place. Literally, my work place. No kidding. I'm just 17 and here I am in the hospital as usual, working as my mother's receptionist.
"Mother, about the-" I never got the time to finish my sentence because of my mother's interruption.
"Chop chop, I see a patient." She waved me off and went inside her room. I sighed, readying my appointment check book.
I heard a solid rhythm of someone typing on their smartphone. "Name please?" I responded monotonously without looking up. You can't blame me, people my age would have been spending the time of their lives partying right now.
"Edson Warner."
My head shot up so high that my head hit the wall behind me.
"Oww..." I groaned in pain, holding the back of my head. I'm quite sure I'm going to have a concussion sooner or later. You know, because I'm clumsy.
At the corner of my eye, I saw Edson glance up at me and muttered loud enough for me to hear, "Idiot." I glared at him. Hey! It's only fair that I got surprised because the school's notorious bad boy came to this particular hospital and is one of my mother's patient. I wonder what's wrong.
"Jerk." I shot back because I couldn't come up with anything better.
"What did you say?" Edson raised his eyebrows at me.
"I said Jerk dumbass." I almost yelled if it weren't for the hospital.
"Can't handle someone calling you an idiot? Why? Are you PMSing?" Edson slipped his phone in his back pocket and leaned his muscular elbows against the counter.
I'm sure my face flamed up to the colour of a dragonfruit? Without the black seeds of course, that would be way awkward.
Edson laughed at me obnoxiously and set off for my mother's room.
Oh. My. Gosh.
I think I just insulted and embarrassed myself at the school's golden boy.
I quickly dialed Camilla's number. The world's only best friend. Not exaggerating at all, serious.
"Hey girlie." Camilla answered almost immediately. "What happened just now?!" I demanded my best friend. Camilla laughed full out. I'm pretty sure she rolled off her bed to sober up a little from talking. "I'm not with you girlie, although I'll like to know because the last time you used that sentence with me, you just dropped your ice cream with the cone and slipped on it." And Camilla continued laughing, she started choking at last.
Cue the blushing.
"Edson happened." That got Camilla to sober up instantly.
"What about him?! Spill the juices now!" Camilla deadpanned. I never heard her this serious before in my entire life. I told her the whole story, not missing out on any tiny detail because if I do that...Let's make it safe to say that I will be lost tomorrow.
"You what?!?!" I would pay a hundred bucks to see her reaction as of now but oh well work's more important as my mother likes to put it.
"Yeah...I think I insulted him and also embarrassed myself in the process." I filled in Camilla's blank space.
"You're coming to my house for a sleepover tonight Betty." Camilla said firmly.
"Why?" I asked, confused.
"You just talked to The Edson Warner, that's why" Camilla's voice still firm.
Got a baad feeling about it.
"And?" I pressed further because I still don't get it. "I'm going to have you put on makeup for school tomorrow and you know you suck at it." Camilla replied in her 'duh' tone.
Frowning, I touched my face and groaned. Make up?! I don't need make up! My skin is perfectly fine. It doesn't need any cover up.
"For?" Still not quite getting it. "For getting on Edson's good side again silly!" Camilla sighed exasperatedly. Oh. I guess I should go with Camilla, she's the expert in socializing here. "Right, pick me up at 7 p.m. here at the hospital?" I don't have to ask actually, it's always a yes.
"Udcy would be there to fetch you, see you soon bye." The phone call ended with a beep.
I always thought Udcy has a weird name, but that's her driver's name.
Camilla lives in one hell of a rich family. Her parents work from home, for a few of their own companies, from shipping business to other businesses, I don't know.
The click of a door signaling that it's shut brought me back to reality.
Edson walked out of the room with his phone in his hands. "Goodbye nerd." Edson shot to me with a smirk while exiting my mother's 'small' hospital. And he had me blushing again.
