Why am I doing this, she wondered, walking into the newly opened mall.
The mall was surprisingly dark inside, with some of the stores still closed. But she did arrive at the mall shortly after it opened, so some of the stores were getting adjusted to the new time or were finishing up whatever they were doing inside.
Maybe I should have came with someone, she thought, realizing she was alone. Old rock faintly played on a radio, getting interrupted by frequent buzzing and sudden stopping. As she ventured on, the tighter she clutched her dangling purse. Any other normal person would do for her. Seeing another face will make her more comfortable.
A can suddenly fell behind her, and she whipped around in fear, almost screaming. A Pepsi can was spilling its liquids over the polished floor in front of a trash can. The area was extremely dark, so the girl knew better than to pick it up and fall for whatever trick the darkness was pulling. The janitor will get it anyway.
She continued walking through the dimly lit mall, observing the stores. A majority of the stores were still closed, but few were open. The uninteresting or big ones, anyway. She found no interest in big stores - small spaces were quite the comfort for her. She only went to the mall for flashy clothing or a few delicious sweets, nothing more.
But it seems finding those things would be difficult during this time.
For what felt like hours, she wandered around the mall more, assuring herself she's been going in circles. She knows because she's seen the "Now Open!" sign a few good times. No matter how many times she's wandered, the stores remained the same.
But there it was again. Another can dropped, in front of her this time. It was another Pepsi can, once again spilling its liquids. However, it fell from an empty shelf in front of a well lit vape store.
It should be alright if I throw it away, she thought, walking over to the can. As she picked it up, a tall man suddenly appeared in front of her and stared down at her. Despite how bright the area was, he remained as dark as a shadow.
"O-oh, sorry. Is this yours?" She asked, holding the Pepsi can to the man.
The man silently grunted, then stared out into the empty mall space. Curious, the girl looked in the same direction he was looking at.
Then, all of the lights shut off, and the girl was dragged inside the store with a hand covering her mouth.
