"Thank you," the man whimpered to the cashier, grabbing the fish and chips he paid for. The cashier groaned in response as the man hurriedly left.

I shouldn't of gone out so late, he told himself. I know what's been going on lately. I shouldn't of gone out so late.

But the dishes were dirty and the food was low, so the only thing the old man could afford was the delicious fish and chips the gas station served. His mouth watered as he thought about going home and chowing down, surrounded by the comforts of his own home until the next morning. However, he shivered not from the cold, but from the fear rising inside of him. After all, this town turned into a mine field as soon as dusk arrived.

The snow loudly crunched beneath his feet on the empty street. Despite it being night time, the sky had a faint glow to it, like permanent fireworks hovering. It added a more unsettling and spooky figure to the neighborhood he lived in. He just wanted to get home as soon as possible.

A crow cawed next to the old man, deafening his hearing as the black bird took off into the night. Needless to say, his heart was racing as he paid extra attention to his surroundings. Griping his bag containing his fish and chips, he carried on, walking down the empty snow-covered street.

Almost faintly, a low growl was heard behind him. Shaking, the man turned to see a giant black shadow in the shape of a dire wolf. However, the figure was extremely masculine, far too many muscles for a wild animal.

Nevertheless, the old man dropped his bag in shock and desperately tried to run to his house. But something caught him by the foot, and he fell onto the ground, face first onto the curb. Blood trickled down his nose; his vision decreasing as he heard the growl, louder and angrier and hovering above his back.

The last thing he heard was the crow, loudly cawing and flapping above him as if there were no tomorrow.
