It was a cloudy morning in London, Toby cleaning the tables (such an innocent boy), Mrs. Lovett making "pies" and Mr. Todd was upstairs as always. Laura was sitting on one if the steps leading to the barber shop watching Toby working when Mrs. Lovett went upstairs with a tray to give to Sweeney Todd. There was a pie and a tiny glass of gin on the tray. Laura watched her as she was opening and closing the door of the bakery.
Laura- Do you get paid?
Toby- I'm grateful enough that I work here... Mrs. Lovett is a really good lady.
Laura gave him a look, it could either mean "yeah, sure" or "you've been tricked".
Laura- And... Mr. Todd?
Again, Toby shivered, leaving Laura with no answer... no verbal answer better.
Laura- Alright then...
Toby- Where did you go yesterday? Did you speak with Mr. Todd?
Laura- Yes... I sure did. I just left really early because I was tired, you know, I had that headache too.
Toby- Oh ok then! You and Mr. Todd must have had a serious conversation...
Laura looked up to him, "what do you mean" she whispered.
Toby- He looked really disappointed, he had dropped one of his razors and has placed his hands on the window so he could stand still. What happened up there?
"None of your business" she thought.
Laura- Oh nothing don't worry about that.
The sound of a bell and a door opening and closing interrupted their conversation. They both turned around to see Mrs. Lovett walking down the stairs without the tray this time.
Mrs. Lovett- Toby, Mr. Todd wants to speak to you.
Toby- Yes ma'am.
Toby left the towel he was cleaning the tables with on one of the tables and ran upstairs. "Oh well, R.I.P Toby" she thought to herself and laughed. "I should go check".
She slowly and quietly walked upstairs and put her ear on the door. Todd was talking about some letter he wanted Toby to deliver to Judge Turpin. She immediately recognized his name. He was the one who locked her father behind bars and the reason why he would never see him again. She couldn't just stay there. She opened the door and interrupted both of them.
Laura- I'll take the letter to the judge, she smiled.
Sweeney Todd turned to look Toby and with a head movement he told Toby to get out. He closed the door and Todd started talking only after he reassured that Toby was downstairs.
Mr. T- You should stop keeping an eye on me, you're not my guardian. You're not as strong as you think... why do you want to deliver the letter? How can I trust you?
Laura- I'm not going to open it if that's what you mean.. He took my dad and put him in prison. It's him that ruined my life. I will speak to him as well.
He looked at her with a strange look. It meant "can I really trust you".
Laura- I can go and give the letter or I can go anyway and tell the judge about your recipe... sir
Mr. T- Or I can just do this...
Todd grabbed her by her arm and violently sat her to the deadly chair, where he stepped on the lever and watched as the floor behind the chair started moving and the chair turning into a slide, while the wood behind the chair moved. Laura slid down and at the last moment she grabbed the end of the chair to try and hold on while Todd was looking down at her with a disappointed look, a disappointed of himself look. Todd stepped on her arm, making her to let go and go down the tunnel leading to the bakery. Not the main room of the bakery, the room downstairs, where they would bake the pies and keep the "meat".
She fell on her legs, in a bad way. She broke her arm and ankle, and her head and nose were bleeding. She tried standing up and trying to reach the door so she could escape but, after all, she passed out.
