Ida's POV

There were racks and racks of books under the stairway that led to what I think is the rooms.

The corridor was dimly lit by yellow lights coming from the few lamps placed on the tables.

The dark chocolate colored carpet placed on the ground matched Ethan's eyes. A window on my right gave the view of a marvelous fountain with grass and plants surrounding it.

Lee walked in front, leading us to the main hall. Compared to the corridor, the hall was bright, the curtains that covered huge windows were open, and the light seeped through all, landed on the same chocolate carpet that extended in the corridor, making it look like firewood. The hall felt warm and welcoming.

That is when my eyes spot an elite woman sitting on the sofa, sipping tea, or coffee.

Is she Ethan's Mom?

"Hello. I am Ida. It's so nice to meet you."

The woman looked at me and smiled. The smile she gave was so similar to Ethan's that I was sure it was her. Her eyes were black, unlike Ethan's. I felt welcomed, and the feeling of not fitting in disappeared until her smile faded away, and she shifted her attention to the newspaper she was reading. The vibe she gave was nothing like what a cop gives and her dressing style was completely different.

Not something I had expected.

Ethan's hands were still interlocked with mine, but the woman paid no attention to it.

"Mom," he said, clearing my suspicion, "This is Ida, the girl I like."

Like?

I looked at Ethan wide-eyed. My heart had a speed of its own, and my ear constantly replayed the line.

His mother's attention lifted from the newspaper to between me and Ethan, then our interlocked hands.

"So, you are the girl?" She got up from the sofa, placing the newspaper and tea/coffee mug on the side table.

"Good evening, Mrs..."

"Isabel." She informed.

We shook hands, and soon enough, her smile was back on.

"Would you like something, dear?" She asked, "Tea or coffee?"

"Coffee," I answered, and she immediately took off to the kitchen. Something else I did not expect since in houses this big, there is always a maid.

I sat down on the sofa beside where Isabel had been sitting, and Ethan joined me.

No words were exchanged between us in the past few minutes. Lee had joined his mother in the kitchen.

"You are awfully quiet", Ethan stated the obvious while looking obliviously at the table cover.

"I'm with you. At your house. With your mom and brother." Like, you don't get comfy within seconds of entering a new environment. I've seen in movies where the girl has to live with a guy. She gets so comfortable around everything and everyone within no time, directly from proper and respectful clothing to... pajamas.

Not that pajamas are bad. (They are the comfiest things a man has ever been in) but you do not wear them in front of the mother of the guy you like.

"What's on your mind?" I ask Ethan worriedly as it was unusual for him to stay this quiet and oblivious.

"Nothing."

"Look me in the eye and tell," I grumble, knowing that he was lying.

He looked at me, my eyes pleading for his answer.
