"Engine! Are you alright?" I called Engine as soon as I heard the voice mail.

"Yeah I'm al-right," she faltered. I was tensed, hearing her sore voice, as if she had cried for hours.

"Do you want to tell me about it?" I asked, half-expecting a yes.

She sniffed and took a deep breath in before speaking, "Aiden kissed someone."

"Tell me about it," I sat on the bed comfortably, ready to listen to her.
"It was a... he." She said.

"He? What do you mean he?" I was confused.

"The person Aiden kissed was a he."

"Oh-" I said, "that's unexpected."

"No! The person he kissed then punched Aiden and said a lot of mean things to him."

"It could have been a dare." I shrug. This was nothing new, about dares.
"No!" She said for the second time, "it was not a dare."

Welp, I guess Aiden is gay.

"He is gay," she confirmed my suspision.
"And that person told so many bad things to Aiden, embarrassing him in front of everyone." The whole situation of Aiden being gay was an unexpected thing. For all I remember Ethan and Aiden have been dating girls since, middle school.

I shake away my thoughts, not wanting to think about Ethan anymore.

"Where are you?" I ask.

"At home." She replied.

"Why are you crying?" I wish I was there beside her to give her a hug.

"Because I was there when it happened. And I'm feeling so bad for him."

"Look," I let out a breath, "you should be next to him rightnow."

"Why?"

"Because you like him, because you care for him, let him see that. For all my life I havent seen you cry so much over anyone, ever. I just know it, that you should be the one beside him."

"I don't like him."

"Engine, you haven't dated anyone, then suddenly you do. You said you had motives from fake dating Ethan, what were they?" The line stayed silent so I continued, "no matter if he doesn't like you back. Show him that you are there for him. He must be feeling alone, figuring out your gender and accepting it must have already been hard for Aiden. But you like him regardless of that."

"Okay," She takes a deep breath in, before continuing, "have you found- nevermind, I'm going."

Before I could tell anything more, she disconnects the line. So, I brush my teeth and get changed before going to sleep.
.
.
Yeah, no. I can't sleep. I've been tossing and turning around for more than an hour.

I shift over to Ethan's place. His scent was still lingering on the pillow making me feel closer to him.

As I get comfortable, the door creaks open.

Shit! I thought I had locked it?

Being too afraid to look behind me, I cover my head completely with the blanket.

The floor creaks as someone walks in. A few clinks are heard as objects are shuffled around with behind me. I remove a side of my blanket to take a peek at who it was.

I find Ethan putting stuff into his backpack, and just before he turns around, I cover myself.

I hear as he walks closer to me, muttering something to himself. "I'm sorry." I pretend to sleep as his hand removes the blanket from over my head and tucks it around my neck.

My heart aches hearing his pained voice and a stray tear escapes my eye unknowingly. I didn't want to cause him or anyone else any pain, the guilt would be too strong for me to bear.

"Are you awake?" He moves away from the bed.

I open my eyes and he scratches the back of his neck nervously.

"I'll go," he walks away from me.

"If you'll leave, I will never accept your apology," I threaten.

He turns around, "I'm sorry."

"I know," I give a faltered smile and pat on my side, "would you like to sleep here?"

He nods like a kid and attempts to climb on the bed, "Change your clothes first." I shout.

He nods yet again, and removes his clothes from the backpack. He disappears behind the washroom door and comes out with his new pair of clothing.

He quietly climbs back near me, and goes off to sleep within minutes.

I'm an idiot.

I chuckle to myself as I trace my finger on his jawline before dozing off.
