abbie was 3 weeks into her new job and absolutely loving it. she worked for a company that styled outfits and did makeup for kpop idols at events across the country, mainly in seoul. the upcoming soribada music awards were something she was really looking forward to, she'd heard there'd be lots of popular groups. she just hoped and prayed that she wouldn't be styling the boyz. she definitely did not need any crying on that day, it was supposed to be enjoyable.

however today was abbie's day off, so she thought of going to visit the coffee shop before her date. yes, her date. with someone else.

"ahhhh!!! i haven't seen you in ages!!" abi said, rushing to her best friend from behind the counter. "i have been so bored without you! tell me what's happening with you?!" she said, waving a hand to her colleague letting her know that she was taking her lunch break as she walked to a spare table with abbie.

"well, i'm going on a date,"

abi nearly had to remind herself to breathe once she heard this. "you-you're going on a date? who? please don't tell me it's-"

"no. of course not. his name is taegeon...he seems so sweet. i styled his group about two weeks ago, and since you always tell me i need to move on...i decided, why not?"

"i'm so proud of you! you're finally getting the happiness you deserve! without...him," abi said, getting slightly angry as she spoke of sangyeon, despite it not being his fault that the two of them broke up.

"just be yourself. that's the best advice i can give,"

...

to say that the date was awkward would be an understatement. the two of them seemed to click with the other members around them, and whilst she did his makeup. she felt like she'd known him forever. but there was something about the environment that just made the two of them extremely awkward. perhaps it was because it felt like betrayal to sangyeon? or perhaps she just wasn't over him? maybe she wasn't ready to date at all. a million different words were surging through abbie's head, none of them making sense. she wanted them to form a sentence in a desperate attempt to break the ice, but her brain wouldn't let her.

"this is really nice, isn't it?" he said from the opposite end of the table, chewing his food. abbie nodded awkwardly and smiled to cover up her shyness.

at a certain point in the evening the two of them had had enough, and round abouts the same time. they both began to talk at the same time, both being awkward and shy messes.

"listen, why don't we-" was heard with abbie's "how about we-"

the two of them laughed quietly and taegeon gestured for abbie to finish. "i was just going to say...how about we just be friends? there's just something that i can't really explain to you,"

he sighed and clutched his chest as if a sigh of relief. "thank god...i thought it was just me. i was feeling so awkward..." he said, abbie chuckling slightly. "what is it that's holding you back? maybe i can help?"

abbie sighed and nodded. perhaps telling a person she didn't know all that well would help. "i made a mistake letting someone go. i still love them...so much,"

"then why don't you tell them?" he said, taking a sip of the wine he had poured but was virtually untouched until now.

"it's...too late," she said, looking down to her lap in awkwardness.

"if it's meant to be, you'll meet again. i know you will," taegeon said, abbie looking up to listen to him.

"i'll drink to that," abbie said, raising her glass and clinking it with his.

abbie hoped, she hoped so bad that the universe would be kind to her and let her see sangyeon again. but at the same time, what would she say to him after two years?
