Dean woke up, gasping for air. The morning light was shining inside his cell. He sat on his bed looking at his new blue suit by the wall. They must've put it there when he was sleep. It must've been around seven. He got up looking out the window. The grass was wet and they were starting to dry.
It had been months since he had had a nightmare until that night. The dream was an alternative version of the night he committed his crime. The difference was, he was chasing something, or someone this time. He was running through the maze, and there were screams around him, echoing in the night.
A long beep echoed, and the doors got opened.
"Get in line," someone shouted. Dean got out standing behind the prisoner next door. Novak walked towards the exit door and opened it with his key.
Dean loved these handcuffs. The main idea behind handcuffs was that prisoners would have become unable of doing anything but these were literally connected to others. It was like a fallen angel returning to his squad.
He walked through the door, entering the yard. Prisoners were everywhere, on every corner of the yard, behind the blue fences working their hours for extra money, food or any favor from any guard.
Dean knew no-one except that kid Kevin and some guards even though he had been there for a couple of months now.
The last couple of months had been quiet. They moved their guard to Block B for a while but he couldn't live there. As much as Dean has heard, he couldn't control the chaos and noise. Apparently he had some history with it but after all, they returned him to the black old pit at the end of the world, so that he could've talked to them and soothed them before their death. Dean waited till the handcuffs were open and they were released into the yard like wild animals.
"Hey," Dean said as he kept his distance from the fence. Castiel was standing behind the fence, his hands on his gun and ready to fire in time of trouble.
"Yeah what?" He answered slowly. He could get in trouble.
Dean looked at Castiel again. First time that he met him, he was a good new guard with a sense of humor but now he had turned into stone just like all other guards.
"Do you need anything?" Castiel almost shouted at Dean. Dean sighed and stepped back
"No boss" he whispered and walking towards a bench where Kevin was sitting and reading some old newspaper.
"Why do you read?" Dean asked sitting in front of him. The stone was cold even though sun was getting hotter and hotter everyday.
"I don't want to forget how to do that. When I get out, I have to write a letter to my mama and tell her that I'm saved again." Kevin answered smiling to himself. Kevin was from an old small town outside of Missouri. He had moved to New York a year after he murdered two of his classmates who were hurting him physically and emotionally and then turned himself in because he knew that one of his classmates' father had traced the whole thing back to him and that he would've gone to Kevin's mother soon. And probably hurt her the same way his son hurt Kevin.
"Kevin, no offence pal but you're going to die." Dean said shrugging as if it was a fact. And it was.
"No, I'm not. My lawyer is looking for some solution and he has two years which means I have two years and that is good. For now, you're the one dying."
Dean frowned. He was right. It was less than a 7 month time till his glorious secret death and his plan for "the last special friend" haven't worked out yet. At least not with the person he wanted.
"Are you ever gonna tell me why you're gonna die?" Kevin asked sighing. Dean had made a vow not to tell that story. He was proud of what he had done but he wasn't sure if Kevin would've still liked him as his friend after that.
