dio didn't mind the darkness. he thrived in it of course. what he hated was the silence. the silence that followed when he was alone in the darkness.
the nights where not even the wind would pay him a piece of mind were the worst. those nights were when he could hear him. a distant whisper that only seemed to crescendo with dio's suffering. what began as a quiet cry ended in a wracking sob.
some nights, vanilla would come comfort him. he would hold the sobbing vampire in his arms, whispering sweet nothings that would be dismissed as soon as dio found himself silent.

however, vanilla was not there tonight. dio was left to cope alone. silk blankets draped the vampires muscular build as he heard the first whisper. it's existence was a mere figment to the average ear, but dio, being accustomed to it, heard it clear as day.
"dio," the name rang in his ears. it always started with his name. his name spoken in a thick british accent, the word rolling off his nerves.
"i can't forgive you," the voice followed. "you have hurt them so much." dio curled into himself, tugging his hair with his long fingers. it was happening sooner than most nights.

"i'm not sorry," dio spoke, his voice only echoing around his room. the moon poured through his balcony, placing a gentle glow upon his pale skin. he had just awoken with the night, and yet he laid still in bed. "i can't afford to be."
the voice grew louder in his mind. "you don't have to hurt anyone else," the tone was now forgiving, but wrong. dio knew what path he had taken and how many he would have to hurt on his way.

"leave me alone, jonathan!" he cried, hoping the absent vanilla would hear his pleas.
"dio," the vampire shook violently. "just let me go." he pulled his hair even more, strands ripping from the roots.
"no!" he cried louder, his sobs growing as the voice, jonathan, pleaded louder. he always pleaded to rest, to have dio just step into the sunlight. he did not want to kill dio, but he was oh so tired.
