CHAPTER 12

"Hey Lil, are you excited for tomorrow ?", Krist asked knocking Lily off from her thoughts.

"Yeah .., Tech is freaking out and Nance is done with shopping. I am so happy Krist, though I'll miss everyone at home."

Lily, Techna, and Nance are going to join Hedelberg University for doing their bachelors, Lily chose to do her major in Sociology, Techna chose Biochemistry and Nance took up Legal studies. They were lucky enough to get set in one of the most renowned colleges and above all, they were together. Krist got selected at State Basketball Academia which had their grounds close to the HedlBerg University. Aunt Roslina mustered up all her worries and after assurance given by one of her niece who lived nearby, allowed Lily to leave home. Peter, Andy, and John were really sad knowing Lily was going to leave and poor Peter, who will play with him?

Krist convinced Lily's aunt and uncle that he will drop Lily in college along with Techna and Nance, and make sure they have settled in. Lily was happy as Krist will drop hr off tomorrow.

Lily's Pov

Krist looked extremely happy and kept on staring at me, Techna wouldn't stop her gibberish, and Nance's face was heating up hearing her. I and Krist sat at the front and Techna and Nance were seated behind, our luggage was piled up in the trunk of the car and some were placed below our legs. Krist asked me about my documents and all those things to make sure I took everything with me. We got on the road after a long wailing and whining from aunt Roslina and Peter. The journey would take about three hours. 

An hour passed and we were heading towards the mountain highway, Krist kept on talking about how much he would miss me and how he was going to manage not seeing me for weeks. We promised to call each other every day if that was possible. Techna overheard us and stared teasing, she stopped when  I turned back and smacked her with my bag.

So we passed the first curve of the steep mountain and it seems to touch the sky. 

Krist drove slowly but driving slowly didn't help the car to climb the steep road. Each time he slowed down the car dragged backward, so he had to maintain steady feet on the accelerator. A sudden feeling of anxiety hit me when I saw a container truck pass by. Krist cursed under his breathe seeing the caravan of trucks heading downward. He said that once a week loads of trucks would head down this mountain off to the countryside carrying food supplies. 

We were at the 9th curve and all of sudden I heard Krist hitting hard on the horn. I turned to look forward and all I could see was a huge truck heading toward us, I heard Techna screaming and Nance shouting at Krist to turn to the other side. Krist held his hand tightly on the steering wheel and all of sudden his eyes turned towards me, they had tears in them and I could hear him mumbling my name. The car turned over and spun like a top flipped from the road to the gorge. Krist held my hands tightly, all I saw was his face, blood was running down his hair and it turned his eyes red, I could hear Techna calling out my name but I couldn't open my mouth. I couldn't see Nance nor hear her. I  saw the car was about to hit the floor of the rocks lying below and I took my last breath...

"Lily, wake up, or else you'll be late", aunt Roslina shook her from the bed.

Lily jumped up panting and looked around. She had tears in her eyes.

"What happened, dear?"

"I just saw a Dream?"

"Oh .. Lil, I'll be down, get ready quickly", Roslina left downstairs.

Lily put her palms on her face and sighed.
Lily kept running those scenes in her head.

Two hours passed by and lily was ready to leave. She totally forgot about her dream. Krist arrived with his car, Techna and Nance were talking to Lily's aunt. They stuffed their bags into the car and waited for aunt and uncle to say bye. Just as Lily saw in her dreams aunt Roslina and Peter were about to break down and cry.

Finally, they got in the car and left Lily's home.

Krist's Pov

I started asking Lil about her documents, she was that kind of person who frequently forgot things. I am gonna miss her a lot, I can visit her every weekend if her college allows.
"Lil I"ll miss you". It was the 25th time I said this to her.
"Me too", she tried hard to hide her sadness. But something else was going on in her head, she kept looking out of the window.
"Lil? Is something bothering you?" I asked her.
"Um... no. Nothing". I knew she lied but kept quiet as Techna and Nance were behind. They never interrupt our talks, but today they decided to do so.
"Yeah Krist she's gonna miss you, duh, don't you get that?"
Techna was a big lose head.
It was not that, of course, she'd miss me, but that was not what kept her in worry.

Nance and Techna kept on imitating us until Lily smacked Techna with her bag. That's my girl. The car headed towards the mountain highway. I heard Lily curse under her breath.
"Lil.. wha-" she cut me off and asked,
"How many curves does the mountain highway have?"

What? Why did she want to know this?

"I guess about 12?"

"Oh. Could you go a bit slow?"

"Sure, but too slow we won't be able to climb up."

"Yeah. OK"

What has gotten into this girl? The ride turned silent. She didn't utter a word after. She kept on jabbering things nervously. I drove keeping my eyes on the road as it was getting more stepper.

After about 10 minutes, I saw the truck heading down. I cursed. Today? Seriously? I knew they were the food supply trucks to the countryside. They come in a group of 10 to 12. 10 to 12 huge trucks lined up and heading downward. I looked at Lily, her eyes were about to pop out. We were now at the 9th curve. I turned forward to look at the truck and I heard Lily scream. All of a sudden I hit the car's horn when I saw a truck's tyre getting blown away and the truck rocketing in our direction. I looked at Lily and...
