Oikawa's POV
Despite only knowing Hinata for two months, he's allowed me to call him Shouyou from now on. It's heartwarming, but I was a bit startled from what he told me when I walked him home yesterday. Well, he obviously didn't tell me, but he signed it to me— either way, it left me stunned.
Chibi-chan proceeded to sign, "I'm not usually this happy despite this smile I always have on my face. So, thank you."
I didn't know how to respond to that, so he shut the door on me in return, but it wasn't necessarily in a rude way. I just looked at him, quiet and not knowing what to say.
In a way, that night was like a tranquilizer. Shouyou was most likely upset for whatever reason, maybe at himself, but he pretended it was gone the next day. Although, when I saw him the day after he said that, I was in dismay considering that he just shook it off like it was nothing.
I knew I wouldn't see him for another few months or so, considering my team got knocked out of the season rather quickly. It was disappointing; I can't help but wonder how Shouyou will do without me.
This is also an opportunity for my inferior to shine, but will he actually make a move on the poor ginger?
Your move, Tobio.
(A/N: Between Oikawa and Kageyama's POVs in this chapter (in this section right here haha), there's a time skip. A few months passes; I thought I should make that clear before I get comments from people who are confused).
Kageyama's POV
I'm genuinely surprised at how far this team has gotten— we have so many talented players. I'm also surprised at how much I've improved as a person, mainly thanks to Hinata.
Actually, why am I thanking that dumbass?
Damnit.
Our recent victory against Shiratorizawa was applaudable, but we still had ways to go if we wanted to win nationals. Hinata and I haven't really progressed as a duo, but he hasn't really talked to me either.
Strange.
I approached him today at practice and tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention. He hums in reply, going silent when he realizes that it's me that wants to talk to him.
I frown and sigh, stalking away from him. Sugawara approaches me with a concerned expression and says, "Is something wrong between you and Hinata? You two haven't been coordinating very well and it's beginning to take a toll on the team."
"Ah," I fiddle my fingers nervously. "S-Sorry. I should've recognized his emotions sooner."
"What do you mean?" The silver haired setter titled his head to the side, indicating his confusion. I sigh again and say,
"He's obviously uncomfortable with me and it's up to me to figure out why without creating a bigger problem."
I walk away from Suga and I hear him slightly chuckle. I don't bother to turn back around, but I assume he was chuckling because it was probably what he wanted to tell me— just in a nicer way, though.
I've picked up JSL again after quitting it two other times: the time Oikawa and Hinata were out late at night and the night Oikawa walked Hinata home from the cinema.
I'm a relatively slow learner when it comes to new languages— even JSL. It's unfortunate, but I'm determined to be able to communicate more effectively with Hinata.
I've been learning it for a few months, but I only know how to say basic and understand sentences; I can say volleyball terms in JSL fairly easily. Although, I wonder what's so interesting about Hinata that makes me want to talk more with him.
My heart continues to race and my face occasionally heats up whenever we're alone together. That circumstance and whenever I'm alone thinking about him, that feeling always occurs.
I'm also determined to find out about what that feeling is, too. I decided to grow some balls and advance on Hinata, tapping him on the shoulder again.
He gives me a blatantly fake smile and I sign, "Talk to me after practice."
I heard a sharp inhale release from Hinata's mouth in response. His eyes were wide and I was unsure of what emotion was trying to display.
He whispers,
"Y-You learned?"
