"Jieunieee... Why didn't you come last week?... The chief was furious, it's not fair you weren't at the scene.."
FILE NO. H105053
REAL NAME: Lee Yeonbin
CODE NAME: Seal
AGE: 24
ALIBI: unknown
SKILL(s): good at cooking, he has a habit of clapping his hands while laughing (thus his code name).
"Well I have a reasonable explaination. IT. WAS. MY. DAY. OFF."
"Hmph... I should've asked for one too."
"It wasn't my fault the ghoul got away. Plus, I really wanna see the ghoul in person."
That was a lie.
The real truth is that not a single soul knows that Jieun was a ghoul, let alone being called the Cat Of Death, I mean, why would a ghoul become a ghoul investigator and hunt down other ghouls? That would be treason to it's own kind, but here she was, talking to her colleague who happens to be human and has know idea of her secret.
"Jieun... this is all your fault... I have to finish all of this paper work because of The Cat..."
Clearly Yeonbin was sulking under the pile of papers that were stacked on his desk. This was one of the things he hated about his job.
Jieun let out a sigh, loud enough so that the older male could hear.
"I'll treat you to coffee after work today for making up last week?"
"Deal!"
Yeonbin shot up from his seat with both of his hands giving Jieun a thumbs up. This was normal, 6 days a week. Yeonbin would get all sulky and complain about his work, then Jieun treats him to some snacks and drinks to make him feel better.
"What's all this commotion about?"
Just when Yeonbin wanted to celebrate, the head chief enters their office.
FILE NO. H106783
REAL NAME: Song Jinyoung
AGE: 28
ALIBI: Head Chief of the ghoul investigators.
SKILL(s): strict but has a sense of humor.
"Aish it's Eagle Tiger..."
Yeonbin was lucky he didn't say that out loud, but his face showed.
Jieun was quick to give her response to her boss while handing him some papers.
"Good morning Mr. Song. Here are the papers you wanted me to finish last week."
"Thank you. Oh uhh... Ms. Park, can I see you in my office. I want to talk to you about something."
"Of course sir. About...?"
"I wanted to ask you to help on something, about The Cat."
"I'll be there in a minute."
"Thank you."
With that, the chief left.
Jieun looked at Yeonbin who was doing his work, Yeonbin peeked out from the piles of paper eyeing her.
"He sounds much more calmer than last week."
"Yeonie, am I gonna be in trouble?"
"I don't know Jieunie, I don't know."
Yeonbin's voice clearly sounded sarcastic as he rolled his eyes and pouted, continuing his paper work.
"Ms. Park, please sit down."
"Yes sir."
"Now about The Cat... I need your help tracking her down."
"Pardon?"
Jieun was now thinking of how she should track down herself. It seemed impossible, but she got this far with her job, so there has to be a way.
Mr. Song sigh while turning his back to face the window behind his desk.
"We need her alive. She knows too much already."
He turns to Jieun and handed her some reports. There was a note on the first page of the report which read, 'Project: Extinction'.
"'Project: Extinction'... Sir, what is this?"
"I was thinking about tracking down The Cat and finding out about her plans. It seems that most of the ghoul activities around the area has something to do with her. Her and Ghoul Murder Case No.25. She stole the case file last week."
"Isn't that the case where the child of the two ghouls escaped, Hyunjin was it?"
"Exactly. But there are so many people named Hyunjin these days, and we don't even know the ghoul's age. There's also no luck finding the surname, the parents' surnames were never registered."
"Funny how ghouls have families like us."
"Pardon? Ghouls are still monsters"
No. You humans are monsters.
"I don't mean to offend anyone sir, but I've been researching about a few cases back. It's interesting how ghouls can have a functional family like us humans. They send their children to school and go to work to support their families."
"You're not offending anyone Ms. Park. You're just surprisingly open minded about these things, I'm impressed. We're lucky to have someone like you and Mr. Lee on our team."
"Thank you? but how are we planning on tracking down The Cat?"
"It's all in the report."
Jieun flipped through the papers. She didn't really read the contents, she was counting how many pages the report contained.
"Well, that was all I wanted to discuss about. You can head back, thank you."
"Of course sir."
She got up from her seat and quickly bowed to her boss before she left the office with the report. As she opened the door, she bumped into Yeonbin. Clearly, he was trying to find out what the two were talking about.
"Well. I'm caught."
The male smiled cheekily at Jieun.
"I'm not weak. I can take them on."
