Life is an illusion...
Like a tear in an ocean.
How life continues is an enigma. Why we choose to continue to live is based on our emotions.
When you don't have any, your decisions are simpler. I realised that after going through hell. Not with ever ending fire, No... but with insurmountable torrents of water.
When your stuck in a city which lives on water, it's hard to have your own way, your own path to follow.
I certainly didn't...
My life was already doomed at my young age of 16 years old. Being kidnapped was my fate, and it just kept on getting worse...
Walking calmly with my mother back from a store of some description wasn't random... it was destiny.
The death of my mother on that street wasn't fate... it was destiny.
As I thought about it later on, my destiny was one of pain, sorrow and heartbreak... My kidnapping was also destiny, a staged one.
It isn't God that staged your destiny, it isn't a higher order of some sort... its us, the people walking the earth. If there was a god, he is only helping Himself.
The people that kidnapped me were trained scientists. They chose me and a 100 or so other subjects for genetic experimentations. Gene extraction, cell control, brain surgery, you name it, they did it. All this they did it without sedation, so I felt every nip, snap, cut and tearing in my skin.... And with all that the excruciating pain.
My perception of time went away as it wore on. No detail of where I was, barely any sleep and food... And one by one we fell like ants to these monsters.
The weaker ones from the poor districts were first. followed by the others. Later I realized that I was the last one. Out of so many innocent souls I was the one to survive. I concluded that my destiny didn't end here.
After so many transfusions, operations and god knows what, they started injecting a thick blue liquid inside of me. They did this constantly for a long time as I perceived. Every time I felt something strange, the passing of something, I knew not well what, and all that was left in my head was this gaunt quiet.
Lightheaded was always what I felt when waking up, soar from the wounds
or the Itchy from the barely closed ones...I had lost hope when my mother died but when all the other subjects, including the ones I befriended, were gone. My hopes couldn't have been lower.
Except when that faithful day arrived...
I was on my "bed" (a square of thin cloth scarcely a meter and a half long)
resting with the white lights on at such a high intensity that even with my eyes shut, it would filter in a reddish fashion through my eyelids. Two scientist with whips came through the door and as usual ordered me to follow them, I complied. One of them lost his lighter on the way to the lab and ran to get it back. The other was alone, guarding me. I smelt a chance. I gripped the scientists whip and rolled it around his neck at speeds I didn't know where possible. I realized afterwards that the changes they had done had given me great speed and power. He was dead in seconds. I was cold in the corridor. With only a flimsy pare of pants to cover my scar covered legs and my torso was left bare.
I ran away blindly, unsure where to go. The dimly lit corridor offered little to no data on my surroundings. I came to a door about 2,5 meters tall with a set of buttons on the side of it. I pressed a couple and soon realized that it was an elevator.
I entered it and naturally pressed the " up " button. It started it's ascendance. About thirty seconds in, I noticed the floor number was at level 50. I gasped when i realized that I was so low that I could be in the ocean or very far under it. I arrived about a minute later, at the " surface ".
A hall filled with numerous artifacts and shapes, certain bubbles of substances or ornate objects. Then I stumbled on a crystal like object, it was in a sort of container. I managed to open it after an effort and picked it up.
I was completely mesmerized by the shape and the colour. I accidentally cut myself with it, not considering its sharpness. I gently put it back and continued my advance inside this strange hall. I felt a pain in my head, but shrugged it off. After a few minutes of artifacts and objects, a door was visible, I opened it and was instantly blinded by a massive flash of light.
The sun. The sun in all its greatness is the first thing that welcomes me from the depths of the sea. After so much time in darkness I never thought I'd see this ball of incandescent heat that lit our darkest days again.
I stepped out and was welcomed by the fresh sea air and sand... lots and lots of sand. Too tired to look, I ran... ran as far as I could from this place of pain in a small forest and then collapsed, grateful for my liberty in this woody and dimly lit entourage.
Little did I know that I was being watched by two figures in the shadow of the trees... They were curiously observing my movements and I noticed them because of the ' gifts ' that the scientists cursed me with. They approached me and I played dead.
" He's a strange one... " a rugged oldish voice said.
" Indeed, Uncle... " a sweet and melodious one responded to the first.
" We shouldn't take any chances, wound him to see if he's alive. " the first speaker said.
I was instantly filled with rage.
' Couldn't they see that my body was covered in wounds and scars ?! ' I thought to myself.
" But we shouldn't, Uncle. What If he is still alive it will hurt him more considering his wounds ? "
' She cares... ' I thought.
I would never be more grateful...
" I know but maybe he's dangerous, either way I'm still doing it. "
At that, My anger exploded and I opened my eyes fast and analyzed the situation quickly. The elder man was caring a kunai close to my neck and the other was... well, a girl, about my age it looked... and she was stunning, like a new sun in the end of a starry night.
But I needed to concentrate on the danger at hand. I gripped the man's sleeve and turned behind his back until he let go.
" Let go ! " I said, he complied and I let go of him only to be met by a instant pain in my head and turned to see the girl with a sturdy stick, I fell on my knees in pain and she hit again, this blow sent me into a black turmoil and I gratefully seeped into unconsciousness.
