Chapter 1 : Revival

The quick and the dead...

Those words lingered for a time in my mind just as was entering consciousness. The surroundings felt familiar... and there I go back to the memories of the horrible laboratories and the operations.

I quickly brush them away and start to wonder. Where am I ? Then the memories come flooding back like a wave of ocean water. A dull ache subsides in my head, remembering the pounding that the sweet looking but well armed girl gave me. I made out voices very close to me.

" He's been like this for about 2 days now, Doc... since we found him. " said the recognizable elder man that I first saw. " I see... " said an unknown figure which I presumed was this ' doc '. " If he wakes up, don't start assaulting him with questions or anything just let him recover, slowly... at regular intervals give him these pills, it will help him in the process. " said the ' doc '.

" Thank you for your time, doc. We do appreciate it. " added the elder man, thankful.

I heard footsteps retreat outside the room I supposed I was in. I realized I was restrained by some roping. Suddenly, my head started hurting and burning and I felt my mind seeping back into an unconscious state.

I woke up later with a relatively light pounding in my head... I decided to untie myself. Indeed, with my enhanced strength I split the roping, wrenching my hands free then my feet, hearing footsteps approaching the door, I played unconscious in my original position. These weren't heavy and so I had an idea of who these footsteps belonged to. 

A door creaked open and these footsteps proceeded inside with what sounded like a tray. It was put down and those distinct footsteps approached me. Feeling observed, I took my chances and lurched at the figure which was undoubtedly the niece of the elder man. She gave a small shriek until I covered her mouth and shushed her. 

Her arms were subdued so she was a relatively small threat. I got to look at her features inventively : she was stunning to say the least. She had burgundy colored hair, sky blue eyes and a small nose and mouth. The eyes were regarding me with a mixture of fear and curiosity. " Where am I ? " I whispered, She replied hesitantly: " Your in the Land of water, in a small village by the name of Kao... ," I nodded.

" Who are you ? "

" My name is Lin... "

Lin... A name that fits her perfectly.

I regarded my situation. I was in an unknown place, surrounded by potential danger and unknown people...

I looked her again and noticed a blush slowly covering her cheeks. I was perplexed by this and wondered why she would be blushing in this situation when she was being overpowered...

Then the right impression dawned on me... 

I was on top of her so to speak and our faces were dangerously close to each other and multiple parts of our bodies touched. I realized and started blushing slightly myself.

Rapid footsteps approached the door and it flew open revealing a concerned elder man regarding us intently.

Realizing our position, I got up. " I hope I wasn't interrupting anything... " he said. Lin blushed at the comment " No, he was just telling me his name and __ "
" I understand.... " the man said.

" But you should explain your actions against us and how you managed to find yourself in that forest ? "

At that I nearly exploded, " Are you serious ?? You nearly tried to silence me ! If I hadn't disarmed you, I would have been gutted ! " I fulminated with suppressed rage clear in my voice.

" We had to, we didn't know... " Lin said. I understood their judgment and their reasoning.

" So... " the elder man started, " How did you end up on that beach and in that forest ? "

I knew that was coming so I sat down and proceeded to explain how I was kidnapped by those scientists and experimented on me for months on end.

Their expression changed from one of seriousness to pity and compassion, especially Lin who was on the verge of crying as it seemed... I looked at her and smiled lightly, something I hadn't done for a very long time... 

I continued my story on how they, either purposely or accidentally, enhanced my strength and senses. Just at that moment I realized, something must be powering these enhancements in my body, something that's depleting and that, unfortunately, might keeps me alive... 

" I need to get back to that lab... " I exclaimed, " You shouldn't, it's nearly night, dangerous things are outside at night... " the uncle said. " I'll be alright, I just need someone to guide me... "

" I could do it... " Lin said timidly " I  know the route by heart. "

 " It's settled then. " I proclaimed " We head off now. " the uncle stayed quiet for a moment and then nodded " alright, you " he pointed to me " Protect her... " I nodded.

A few minutes later, we were heading out of the little house heading for the forest and ultimately the beach where the lab is...

We were silent in the beginning but gentle conversation started to arise and we talked gingerly for a time.

I stopped abruptly, making out a faint shuffling in the woods we were in just before the beach... ' Whats wrong ? ' said Lin, ' Were being followed ' I replied, whispering. Suddenly, a kunai came flying past us and hit a tree stomp, I spun. I regarded the two figures intently, robbers as it seemed.

 " What do we have here ? " the first on said. " Keep off ! " I shouted 

' Now, Now don't shout otherwise it WILL hurt more ! ' the second one said lunging toward me with another Kunai in his hand. I didn't have time to react and my immediate action was to put Lin behind me and raise my hand to parry it.

I felt it touch my palm then...
