Authors note: So Dakota is given to Jim on his 5th birthday

Third Pov

The sun was rising in the town of Arcadia, the sky was partically cloudy but none the less beautiful. An unknown creature flew through the clouds in the sky and dived towards where the Lake house was. It landed in one of the trees closest to the house. It looked at Jim and Dakotas sleeping forms from where it sat, growling softly.

Dakotas Pov

I felt Jim sit up suddenly, forcing me to to wake up. The door opened and mom came in with a tray and two plates on it, "Wake up, wake up! Don't want to sleep through your big day" she said putting the tray on the bed. "Big day?" Jim asked as I sniffed at the food "Big day you start with, Mom's special birthday pancakes!" Mom continued.

The bone shaped pancakes ment for me were always made with dog friendly ingredients. Both of our pancakes had a candle on top, but Jims had the 'face' on it "He looks like hes screaming" Jim said "He's excited" she said.

"I know, I know. You always hate your birthday" mom said getting up "but your sixteen! This is a big one. We should do something tonight" she said picking up a book from the ground and putting it back on the shelf.

"Oh, Mom, you know I don't want to-" Jim tried to refuse. "This isn't up for discussion. No one should be alone on their birthday" Mom said opening the window.

"But I'm with Dakota" Jim said with a smile whil giving me a pat on my neck. "You know what I mean" mom said smiling at Jim "When you've had your fill, I have another suprise for you downstairs"

Jim sighed as she descended down the stairs. He turned to his breakfast and poked it with his fork. I nibbled the side of mine but didn't like the taste.

Jim's walkie talkie beeped "Warhammer to Trollhunter. Copy?" Toby asked. Jim went and sat at his desk, grabbing his walkie talkie "Copy. What is it, Tobes?" "Look out your window!"

Toby was holding a bitten cardboard cake that said Jim & Dakota. "I think a bird or something tore away a piece of your drawing, Tobes" Jim laughed.

"That was Arrrgh. He thought the cake was real. Or maybe he just likes the taste of paper" Toby asked himself inspecting the cardboard "Anyways any word from Claire?"

"No she's not returning any of my texts. It's not like I destroyed her house or anything. Oh wait. It is" Jim said falling onto his chair.

I rolled my eyes and decided to head downstairs where mom was. I made it to the bottom of the stairs and saw mom trying a pancake she turned to me "Oh, Dakota I have your birthday bow" she said pulling out a blue bow with white polka dots.

She put it on my head and smiled "You always look so cute when you wear that!" I grumbled in embarrassment, I didn't want to admit it, but I did like wearing it.

Jim finally came down the stairs "Wait right there. Let me get your present ready in the garage" Mom said heading to the garage.

"The garage?" Jim asked he pulled out his magazine from his bag "I know you've wanted this for a while, and now that you're the big one-six, maybe it's time" a motor started running and Jim looked to the garage with an excited smile.

I wagged my tail following Jim to the garage "I think you'll get a lot of mileage out of it" Mom said.

"Did you seriously just get me a-?" Jim stopped when he opened the door to reveal his present was a blender.

"The Food Magic 3000!" She presented as the lid leff off "From those cooking shows you like. It slices, it dices..." she trailed off when she saw mine and Jim's face "And you hate it"
