It was a cold day in December. You and Clay had decided to go out and do something fun, since winter exams were coming up and the stress had gotten to you both. So the two you had both agreed to go get your minds off things. It was mainly getting some hot cocoa at a nearby coffee shop and then taking a walk at a park. It was the one thing the both of you guys did.
"Oh fuck, I forgot my jacket at your place," You cursed, realizing this once you both had pulled the car up to the parking lot of the coffee shop. Clay looked at you with a raised eyebrow, shaking his head.
"I'm not even surprised. You leave it so many times," Clay chuckled, taking off his seatbelt. "But, lucky for you, I came prepared." He stretched his arm to the back seats. He grabbed something he had left in his car. Clay tossed it to you.
"C'mon, put it on. Let's go." Clay opened the door of the car and stepped out. You hold the item of clothing in your hands and unfolded it. A small smile spread on your lips, seeing it was his favorite sweatshirt. He wore it so many times that you just knew it was his favorite, at least. You slipped it on quickly over your head as you joined him outside right at the doors of the cafe. As you caught up to him, he turned to look at you up and down, looking at how his larger sweatshirt hung on your body.
"This old thing feels better than I thought. I can see why you wear it so much," You grin, trying to bunch up the sleeves a bit as they were a tad long for you. The corner of his lips quirked upwards at the comment.
"It looks better on you than it does me," Clay chuckles, opening the door for you. Your heart was thumping so fast that you thought it was going to jump out of your chest any moment now. You laugh along, trying to hide the fact that your face was probably pink. You enter the cafe, the smell of wood and coffee hitting your face. It felt warm and home-y, just like you remembered.
You recognized the barista at the cash register. It was a girl named Valerie, cute with short brown hair and bangs. She went to your high school, working this job to get enough money to upgrade her phone. You two have been in this cafe so many times that you both practically knew the people who worked there. The both of you walked to the register.
"Hey you guys! Two hot chocolates, right?" Valarie smiled, already punching in the orders. You nod in response.
"You know us so well. Clay, do you want anything else?" You ask. You didn't get a response. Confused, you turned to look at him. His face was a bit pink, distracted. "Clay?" You bumped his arm with his elbow, making him jump a bit and tear his gaze from wherever he was looking at to you.
"Yup? Uh, right. Nothing else. Thanks, Valarie," he says a bit too quickly, making you a bit puzzled. You pushed away your thoughts as he reached over to pay for your things. What was going on with him?
"Alright, I'll be right with your drinks in a minute," Valarie smiles widely, giggling just a bit. Both you and Clay walked to the table on the side of the room with all the napkins, sugars, and straws. Clay didn't say anything as he started stuffing his pockets with napkins and complimentary mints.
"What was that about?"
His head snapped towards you, eyebrow raised.
"What do you mean? Paying? You paid last time so I thought I should pay for our drinks this time." Clay hummed, picking up a mint and unwrapping it. You roll your eyes, grabbing your own mint.
