And from that moment, your feelings went downhill. Clay continued the phone call so happily, a large smile on his face. George and Nick felt so bad afterward, that George had to save the day and made up a lie so they would have to cut the day short. Nick ended up having to rush to your house to comfort your crying. You weren't okay. The crush you had since the beginning of your sophomore year was officially not into you, and it hurt. Nick tried to assure you that there were plenty of other people, but you denied every claim he made.

And that was how it was for a couple of days.

You still had your tests, even if you felt like shit. Your heart was broken, and every class had a final that next week. You studied nonstop, using that time to get your mind off of things, but every time you saw Valarie it reminded you of the person you never were.

Still, you trudged on. Until it was finally Christmas break. You wanted to be relieved, but it was kinda hard when you remembered that you mainly hung out with Clay each winter break. You were making your way outside the school to walk home before you felt someone tug on your backpack. You stop, turning and seeing a heavy breathing Nick.

"Hey! Wanna do something?" Nick asks you, trying to catch his breath from running after you through the crowd of people. Now that you think about it, you don't know how you didn't see him since he was wearing his bright red letterman.

"Sure? I mean, I was just gonna be home..."

"Nonsense. You're going through some shit and you need to be cheered up. Fuck guys, am I right?" He gave you a bright smile, and even though you didn't want to, your body automatically gave him a small smile back. He ushered you in his car, grabbing both of your backs and dumping them in a backseat as you both sat in the front. Every little thing reminded you of Clay. Fuck. You didn't know it, but Nick looked at you up and down with a frown. He hated seeing you like this. He turned on the car, his knuckles nearly turning white when he grabbed the steering wheel.

"Hey, let's go to some cafe and get us some snacks and we'll go to like the park or something and have our own mini picnic. I know you like that stuff," Nick says gently, eyes on the road and starts to drive. You hum in agreement, looking out the window. You watched the other cars pass. And soon enough, you guys arrived at the place.

Fuck. It was where Valarie worked.

Nick turned off the car, unbuckling his seatbelt. He didn't know. And you didn't have the heart to tell him. You shuffled out of the car, feeling the bad vibes already. Getting over a crush like Clay was harder than it should've been. You felt as everything went in slow motion as you go to the entrance before you see Nick grab the door handle before you. Your eyes snap up to him, and he gave you his signature smile. He pulls his hand off the handle, and you watch him shuffle off his red letterman, and hold it towards you.

"You look cold. Take it. I'm warm enough," Nick brings the jacket around your body, helping you put it on as you hesitantly put your arms through your sleeves. It was a bit heavy, and large compared to your body. Was Nick actually that big compared to you? The jacket inside was still a little warm from Nick's body heat. And it was quite cozy.
