The sun laid on Mary's face as she woke the next day, the pills that killed her emotions had worn off now, and the pain of being alone sunk in. She slipped her robe on and walked down the hall, smiling at the pictures of her boys on the walls, and headed for the kitchen. She started grabbing two cups for juice before realising Max and Josh weren't here anymore. A sigh escaped her and she put the cups away again, and made coffee before finding her favourite armchair by the window and sitting down. Coffee for one, no Celeste or boys to care for. Again, without those pills Mary would daydream a lot and be more fragile, how she would act normally. The pills kill that. But her doctor told her not to take them everyday, today was a day off from them, so the worse day where her heart felt sore and her blood ran cold.
Startling her, a letter popped through the door, followed by a few more. Mary grabbed them largest one from the floor, and slid her nail under the stick of the envelope and opened it. She saw the logo of the San Fransisco Court, and her eyes scanned the page.

To Mary-Louise Wright,
After the death of your son, Perry James Wright, my client has come to wanting some amount of Perry's insurance, around the amount you have inherited or half of your amount. My client goes by the name-

Mary didn't need to read anymore she knew who the person was and she knew this would happen, she was waiting for it. Perry's father wanted money from him. Samuel James Wright, or as she called him, Sam or Sammy. Her soulmate. She dropped the letter on the side and welled up as she grabbed her glasses again and read the rest after some deep breaths.

of Samuel James Wright, and is entitled to inherit some of the money left. You will be required to attend a court session at San Fransisco Court, on Friday the 14th of May. This will simply be over table, no court room involved. The Judge, clients and lawyers. Thank you for your time.

Mary took her glasses off and wiped her eyes. How much worse could her life go. About to go into court with her ex-husband.

The day had came. Mary wore her normal attire, trousers, boots, a scarf and trench coat, with her handbag. Her pills were in the top of her bag as she walked towards the court building, she gulped and shook her head. No pills today, I don't need them. Her lawyer walked beside her, and gave her a slightly reassuring smile as they strolled to the room. She walked in and saw him sitting there. He was older, of course. Brown hair turned to grey, clear skin turned to wrinkles. His eyes were still as dreamy as she remembered. His smile was as perfect as she remembered. She sat down the other side with her lawyer and slowly gazed up at him. Sam nodded and looked away again. She sighed quietly and itches her hair a little.
"So today we are sorting out finalisations of the insurance money from Perry James Wright is that correct?" The judge said in-front of them all.
Everyone nodded in agreement.
The court session was boring mostly, nothing except Mary watching the lawyers sort it out and Sam occasionally saying something. She didn't say a word. He still scared her and made her feel small. The judge gazed at the quiet Mary-Louise.
"Are these agreements ok with you Mrs Wright?"
She nodded. "Y-Yes fine..." She said quietly not looking at Sam.
"You seem uptight if you don't mind me saying, a little on edge?" The judge said to her again.
"I-I'm fine" She said, a little snappier this time. The judge nodded and carried on discussing arrangements.
It finished, and Mary walked to the door, Sam came up beside her, and brushed his arm with hers, she flinched. Her body almost started to shut down.
"Lou, you're not scared are you?"
Mary shook her head. Lou, she hadn't heard that nickname in a while.
"You're scared" He said in a quiet voice.
He said it the same way he did that night.

Perry and Raymond were in bed, Mary strolled into the bedroom, brushing her long hair and wiping makeup off. Sam was sitting on the bed, watching.
"You need to stop working Mary. You're a mother, I'm supposed to be the one working" Sam said annoyed.
"Sam it's fine darling, it's just a small job to have on the side as well as me caring for the boys"
"Women stay at home making dinner, and looking after children. They don't work." He said in a tense voice and walked to Mary, and stroked her face. She flinched.
"You're scared" He said in a quiet voice.
He slapped her and grabbed her chin as he watched her cheek slowly turn red in shock. Mary welled up and took a deep breath and closed her eyes. Sam pushed her off the chair. She felt the blow of a kick into her leg. It would be over soon. Close your eyes. Think of your perfect boys. They would never be like their father. It's alright.

Tears filled Mary's eyes as she was reminded of what their relationship was. Sam went to wrap his arm round her and she flinched and moved away.
"S-Stop p-please" She said scared and her eyes filling with more tears.
The room saw Mary's fright, Sam gulped seeing everyone look and seeing Mary re-coiling into herself. He couldn't believe what he had done. What his son had done like him. Mary quickly walked down the hallway and left. Tears streaming down her face as she ran to her car.
"MARRYYYY! LOU!" Sam screamed across the courtyard and followed her. She sped off. Sam wanted to speak to her. Apologise. Make amends. But it wouldn't be as simple as it sounded.
