"Before we start strategizing," Caleb started, looking at the other three, "it'd be best if the two of you are a team, instead of working against each other."
They were sitting in a closed compartment, eating dinner, just the four of them. Josiah nodded, but Ava spoke up, "We all have a common enemy. This isn't about just us fighting to get to the finish."
The men exchanged looks, before Finnick asked her, "What do you know?"
Ava glanced at him, "What do you mean? It's obvious, isn't it? We all know who the real enemy is."
There was a moment of silence, before the men collectively let out the breath Ava didn't realize they were holding. Josiah grinned at Ava before Caleb raised his glass to her.
"We didn't know if you knew," Finnick said, quietly.
"You all know?" Ava asked, looking around the table.
"Of course..." Finnick told her, most of the people who are part of the rebel group in each District knew each other, as well as the ambassadors of the rebel groups from other Districts. Finnick had never seen Ava at a meeting or anything, "I've been District 4's link to the Capitol. I've made quite a few allies there and I know things. Secrets. I hear it all, the whispers around the Capitol."
Ava looked at them. The reaction she got was the confirmation she needed to trust all of them. Caleb poured Ava another glass of wine and told her, "We've been wanting you on our side for a very, very long time."
"I'm sure you can understand why we had our reservations," Finnick said, "we had to make sure. Guess Adam came through."
"My brother?" Ava asked, confused, how they knew he was the one who reminded her of the phrase.
"Your brother told us you could help. We just weren't sure if he had given his stamp of approval before you got reaped," Caleb said, "we thought we'd have time to exchange a few words before we were put on the train, but Snow is cunning."
"I'm sorry? My brother's stamp of approval?" Ava questioned how her brother was involved.
"Ava...do you even know who your brother is?" Finnick asked and when he received a blank look from her, he said, "He's the leader of the rebellion in District 4...he's kind of a big guy."
"How do you know that? How much do you know?" she asked, shocked to find out what her brother had been up to. For how long, she wondered. He talked to her about a possible uprising, that the Districts were anticipating and waiting for a signal. She had no idea he was playing such a big role in it. Why didn't he tell her?
"Obviously more than you," Finnick said, glancing at the other two, "how much do you know?"
"There was talk...about a rebellion," Ava started. She knew she had to give them something in order for them to trust her, "all I know is what I've heard at the Capitol. The higher ups are on edge. Especially after Katniss and Peeta's tours...all the uprisings throughout the various Districts has them nervous..."
"The revolution," Josiah said, "I've been traveling between the Districts...the Capitol's been making a lot of changes. Stricter changes. More Peacekeepers, more cameras, more punishments..."
That wasn't news to Ava. She saw the control rooms and Snow's blueprints. She knew what he was up to before his closest confidants knew. She knew how furious Katniss made him. She knew how much he wanted to kill her. She knew the second he announced the Third Quarter Quell, it was all a ploy to kill Katniss. She had become a hero throughout the Districts, he couldn't kill her how he normally killed his enemies. He knew he had to kill her in a way the public could accept.
