Finnick was by himself in the greenhouse in 13 when Ava found him. She gave him a curious look, wondering why he was there. All around her, there were beautiful plants. It was luscious green with splashes of vibrant colors throughout the massive room. Ava had never been there. She didn't even know there was a greenhouse. She knew they grew their food inside, but not something like this that was so beautiful and clearly for recreational purposes. It didn't really feel like 13's style.
"What are you doing here?" Ava asked him with a smile, "Johanna told me I could find you here."
Finnick smiled back as he slowly walked over to her, "I told Johanna to tell you I'd be here."
With Katniss in recovery after being shot, they all got a few days to relax and regroup. Of course, somewhere there were the leaders planning and plotting, but for the most part, things were on hold.
"Why? Are we on a date?" Ava asked, laughing.
Finnick flashed her his famous smile, "Maybe. I want to show you something," he held out his hand and she took it. He pulled her to him first and kissed her slowly.
Ava smiled, "You're in a particularly good mood today."
"Hmm," Finnick smirked before they continued farther into the greenhouse. Ava let him lead until she saw a gorgeous water fountain. It was right in the middle and that was where Finnick stopped.
"It's so beautiful," Ava sighed blissfully.
"I thought you'd like it," Finnick said, holding her hands, "Ava...you are the most interesting woman I've ever met."
"That's saying something," Ava teased.
Finnick gave her a blunt look before laughing, "Seriously though. You're beautiful, smart, fucking scary, and you are kind. And I want to be the lucky man to spend the rest of my days and all my nights in your presence."
"Finnick..." Ava started.
Finnick got down on one knee and took out a small silver ring, "Ava Salazar, will you marry me tomorrow?"
Ava gasped and covered her mouth. She was not expecting a proposal. Finnick never hinted at it, either. She looked at the handsome, thoughtful, and brave man before her and she knew her answer, "Yes," she said, laughing, "yes, yes, yes! Of course!"Finnick slipped the ring onto her left ring finger and stood up. He picked her up and they laughed as he spun her around, before placing her back on her feet. Ava threw her arms over his shoulders and kissed him.
But she pulled away abruptly and asked, "Wait, did you say tomorrow?"
Finnick laughed, "Yes. Why wait? And for what? We don't know what's going to happen tomorrow."
Ava thought about it for a minute, before she nodded enthusiastically, "I can't wait to marry you tomorrow!"
Finnick grabbed her face and kissed her.
The wedding was put together in a hurry, but Ava loved how everything turned out. It was simple but beautiful. She wore a pretty white dress they found for her. Finnick looked just as handsome. They had just said their vows and Finnick smiled at her before he was given permission to kiss her.
Ava couldn't believe it. She was married to Finnick Odair. She never thought marriage was in the cards for her. She never thought she'd be happy again. She never imagined it'd be with Finnick.
They had a festive reception in the dining hall with all of 13 there to celebrate. People loved something to be excited and happy about. It wasn't war related. It had nothing to do with the Revolution. It was a nice break for everyone.
