a/n mmhmm i've been thinking about this all day but never got to writing it. now that i'm hunkered down for the night, i'll get to writing. enjoy!
also mm yes this is a large deli w a walk in freezer (i know, i'm being fancy :3c)

school's out, and the one thing you want to do during the break is make money. you wanted to save up to upgrade your gaming setup. when you were looking for places to work, you found an ad for a deli in the town. they're well known in the area for their great selection of sandwiches. after getting in touch with the higher-ups at the deli, you found that there is a position opening up soon. hmm.. what did they say again? i have to work in the freezer? they also said that you can just show up and they will take care of most of the employment process.

the next day rolls around, and you make your way inside the deli. at the front counter, an employee stands there in boredom. it doesn't seem like they've gotten many customers yet. "e-excuse me?" you get a little closer to the counter and the worker snaps out of their trance. "o-oh! are you looking for something?" they awkwardly smile and try to play off how they were just zoned out. "i heard that you guys have a position opened here, and i was told to just come in..." you trail off your words. what if this person has no clue of what i'm talking about? "oh, the freezer job? yea, the manager is right by the freezer door. you can come in through here." the employee leads you behind the counter and shows you the way towards the freezer. you give them your thanks and they return to the counter.
as you make your way to the freezer, you spot what seems to be the manager by the door. he has a rather medium-set build, and he was average height. his arms were crossed, and his face lights up when he sees you turn the corner. "are you the one who called in yesterday?" the manager puts his hands on his hips and smiles. "yes, that's me! i'm y/n." you hold out your hand and he gives you a firm handshake. "oh, right," he opens the door and motions you into the freezer, "you'll be spending your time stocking frozen items in here. and our boy in there will teach you all you need to know. let me know how it goes!" when you step inside the freezer, he lets go of the door and it closes.
"ah geez, we got more to sort through? i'm still workin' on this one!" you hear a voice from the back of the room, and then hear footsteps coming towards you. a rather tall man emerges. his brown hair is pushed down with a yankees baseball cap, and his timberlands scuff against the floor when he walks. he begins to fiddle with the strings on his dark green hoodie. "oh! d-do i know you?" the man stops in his tracks and takes a second to look at you. "i-i called in to take this job position. are you the one that's supposed to tell me how this works?" you shakily reply. your cheeks turn pink, not just from the cold, but from the man's staring. "ah man, i'm finally out this job. but yes, i'll have to show you how to do this before i quit." he laughs and puts his hands into his hoodie pocket. he begins to turn around before he stops and flips back towards you. he holds out his hand. "oh yea, i'm schlatt." he awkwardly smiles before you shake his hand. "y/n."
he makes a 'follow me' motion with his hands and he turns to go to the back of the room. when you get to the back, he squats down and points at the shelfs. he starts to go into detail about how the meats in the freezer are sorted by animal. after they're sorted by animal, they're sorted by parts, and like-items are put together. as schlatt is still down to the ground, he picks up a handful of prepackaged meats. he stands up and hands them to you. "now, where do you think these would go? if you need a hint, let me know." he puts his hands on his hips and he watches you look around the freezer. "not gonna lie, you look kinda lost..." he laughs at the way you're frozen in place (no pun intended). "i promise you, i got this!" you clutch the meats closer to you. as you say this, you walk to the section where the beef is stored, and you put pork in its place. you turn to schlatt, and his hand is covering his face, shaking his head. "you've got a lot to learn."
about an hour passes, and the cold starts to get to you. maybe a short-sleeved shirt wasn't a good idea. as you continue to stock shelves with schlatt, he notices you shivering. "hey, you cold?" his usual upbeat tone changes to a much softer and caring one. "i mean... we've got a lot of stuff to sort through, so it would waste time if i-" you ramble before he cuts you off. "here. i'm wearing a long-sleeve underneath anyways." he grabs the bottom of his hoodie and pulls it over his head. after sliding out of his hoodie, he hands it to you. "y-you didn't ha- th-thank you..." your face turns red as you take the hoodie from his hands. schlatt smiles and turns back to continue his work.
once you put it on, it was all you could think about. the sleeves were just a little too long and they draped over your hands. you had to keep pulling them back so they wouldn't get in the way of work. the hoodie also.... smelled like him?? out of all things, i think of this? that's so weird...
another hour passes, and there were no more things to put on shelves. at that time, schlatt would catch you holding your sleeves close to your face. he would usually just quietly laugh it off, your hands must've been cold, he thought. "well, i think we're done here. we don't get another shipment of meat for a few days." he stretches then clasps his hands together. "you like the job so far?" he looks over to see you messing with the bottom of the hoodie you're wearing. you look up to meet his eyes. "i do! but, it's more fun when you're here..." you think back to earlier when he said that he would quit once you became an employee. "hmm, yea. y'know what? if you get the job here, i won't quit. i'll see if the manager will let that slide." schlatt grins, making you blush and avert your eyes. "y-you'll stay because of me?" your twirl your thumbs. schlatt doesn't immediately respond, and he starts walking out of the freezer.
"wait! you're leaving already? wh-what about your hoodie?" you take a step forward and then stop. when schlatt gets to the door, he turns to face you. "you're coming back tomorrow, right? so it's all good. also, check your pockets. i'm out!" schlatt adjusts his hat before exiting the freezer and eventually out of the deli. you squint in confusion and put your hand into the hoodie pocket. there's something in here... you pull out a small piece of paper. after unrolling it, your eyes widen. it's his number. you blush and stick the piece of paper in your back pocket. something tells me that this job will be fun.
