Day 31
A few days later was the meeting. The morning sky had a grey tint that reminded her of sadness. Today was going to be good, right? She climbed in the bus for a long ride, left on street la Baie and she walked the few steps to her classroom. The teacher was missing and so were most of the students. The girl searched around the school and there was nearly no one. Only a janitor cleaning the hallway was there to answer her question: where on Earth is everyone? The middle age woman answered ''outside''. Her tiny feet were running fast slamming the heavy red doors of the entrance and now sprinting to find the answer. There it was, Nelson on the top of the brown building without his pierced shoes. His toes looked rotten like an apple left in a haunted house. His arms were elongated like the wings of an angel, except that he didn't had wings and he was ready to fall from a 3 floors building. Down him was standing the entire population of students and teachers telling him not to jump, all but Charles. Laurence grabbed his chest from behind and pulled him off the roof to the door that led to the main stairs. She let go of his back and held his hand until reaching the cafeteria.
- What the fuck were you thinking about, Nels. You could have died up there. Y'know, fall and crush your head on a rock and not see or just have a commotion and never wake up. There was a possibility of you not coming back from this. Imagine, you slipping your sock on a nail while you turn and just fall or maybe if you lost control of the situation and lost your balance and then the tree would of been in your way and it would of cut your soft skin and then you would be laying there without any life in you. You could have hurt yourself pretty badly and God you're lucky that I was there because if you would have died...
- ...
- If you died.
- ...
- Fuck.
Laurence burst into tears letting go her friend. Her two hands covered her face which was splashed by her non-waterproof cheap mascara. Her back hit a wall behind her as Nelson grabbed her to initiate a hug. Laurence's rosé hands slid the back of his neck to return the favor, but she was so shaky it felt like a strange massage, well at least, that's how Nelson described it. Neither less, she did leave a small nervous laugh. The scene ended with Clara joining the conversation asking if everything was okay. The taller girl got up and left without a sound.
- I'm sorry.
The blonde girl whispered and left on the opposite direction. Nelson was then alone in the corner of the huge room. His eyes wandered around the place until noticing Kathreen with her purse in her hands in a way so attached that it seemed suspicious. She walked closer.
- Hi!
- Hi.
- Sorry for interrupting your alone time. I just... feel kinda sad and need someone to talk to, but everyone is gone and-
- Yes, let's sit. Right there
The two sat near a garbage can and even closer to the cash register of the business.
- What's wrong?
- Well... I feel out of place here. You see, everything was different when me and my mom were in the US. She had this job that was less demanding and more helpful and then they asked her to move to Canada, which was okay and all, but now I know she lied to me about this whole school and she cries a lot which makes me super sad and I don't like this but I have to go trough this mess alone. I just feel like she is getting away from me. It's not just her either. The girls, the teachers and even you... well, a bit less, you guys seem off.
Although Kathy's discourt seemed to interest him, Nelson wasn't completely listening. He has found something in her that he never got with the girls, compassion. Carla was the controlling one who never has any problems because her family is rich as hell, Laurence was switching from a guy to another to gain her popularity while inside she just wanted to be accepted and loved, and finally Sophie who just came out of the closet as trans to her mother, which resumed her to live at her brother's home. All of this was quite dramatic and over the top for someone who lived like him. He loved hearing about how Kathy has problems and is debating with herself to find solutions, he didn't have to talk. Just be there. It made him happy to know he can change something for someone so amazing as her. It never was easy for him.
