you make it difficult to not overthink

and when i'm with you, i turn all shades of pink

i wanna touch you but don't wanna be weird

it's such a rush, i'm thinking 'wish you were here'

nekoma's gym was the place akane would spend a lot of time. akane was the cheer captain, and in her free time, she'd go to the gym to see how the volleyball team were doing.

akane decided to bring l/n along with her to the gym, wanting to show her a big part of her life. l/n accepted, knowing it would make her happy and wanting to make more of an impact on her. well, not like that would have changed the outcome.

the two sat on the bench next to each other, nearby the match which was taking place. it was a practice match against karasuno high school: their long-time rival.

that was when l/n noticed how close the two girls' hands were; their fingers were only about two centimeters away from each other.

'i have a chance make a move now.'

but when she saw akane's bright smile after seeing one of the nekoma second-years hit a successful cross shot, ending the set, she decided against it.

'no. what am i thinking? that would just be weird. she'd probably want to stop being friends with me and i don't want to leave all this behind.'

'hang on... what if i'm just overthinking?'

then akane turned her head towards l/n, eyes gleaming with joy.

"l/n! did you see that awesome cross shot right there?" pointing at the players on their side, who were celebrating that point.

"yeah, it looked really difficult," she replied, before allowing herself to smile softly at the girl.

"you know, you look 100 times prettier when you smile, l/n-san," akane commented with a grin.

allowing that compliment to sink in, l/n's face began flushing from a dark shades to light shades, being someone not accustomed to being told such nice things like that.

seeing the girl act so flustered, shibayama had to chuckle at the act; before getting back on the court to play.

"well thanks for coming with me l/n-san! normally i'd come on my own, so this was something different to me," akane said, gracious for the girl coming with her.

"anytime, yamamoto-san," she replied, turning to leave.

"call me y/n, by the way," she added, leaving akane with a soft tint on her cheeks, not even giving her the chance to reply.

'y/n, huh? i can get used to calling you that.'
