"you have to get out of bed at some point hazza." louis sighs as he pulls a shirt over his head.
"i will," i respond softly, rolling over. "later."
we went to visit maryah's grave last week and it hurt me more than i expected it to.
i know it's been six years since she passed but it's still hard to believe.
i'm slowly forgetting the sound of her laugh, the colour of her eyes, and even the way her eyes would become hard to see when she smiled.
the memories are slowly becoming more of a blur and i just wish i could go back.
"daddy we have to leave or me and ava will be late!" freddie yells, beating on the door and louis turns to me.
"i'll be right out!" he calls out to freddie, putting his shoes on before turning to me. "get out of bed. i'm not kidding."
"fine."
louis leaves the room and i wait until i hear the car start to leave bed. once i hear the car leave the driveway, i climb out of bed and walk to the bathroom.
i brush my teeth and look in the mirror. my skin is pale and the bags under my eyes are dark.
maryah would be upset with me if she saw the way i'm just sadly going through life now that she's gone.
she always preached how you need to live with out regrets but she never prepared us to live with out her.
i don't know how she did it. she lost so many people in the short time that she spent on this earth, but she was somehow always smiling.
i never should have hurt her. she didn't deserve to spend her last few weeks on this earth, hurting.
"come on harry, go get dressed and go out." i hear a voice whisper. it sounds like it's coming from my head and it sounds exactly like maryah.
"what?" i whisper, looking up at the sky.
"go get dressed, you're starting to look like a hobo." the voice laughs and i realize that it actually is maryah's voice.
"maryah..?" i ask, not receiving an answer.
it can't be her, she passed away.
i listen to the voice and slowly walk back into the bedroom. i walk over to the dresser, opening the top drawer to reveal a journal.
weird, this isn't my journal.
i pick it up and walk over to the bed, examining the outside of it.
i run my hand across it and realize that it's maryah's old journal. this is the journal she was always writing in.
i open it to reveal the first page:
hey, if you're reading this and your name isn't maryah then i probably trust you, a lot. congratulations, you became the most important person in my life.
i'm starting this journal on my 18th birthday. this is where i'm going to write to my soulmate, harry.
harry, if you're reading this, i want you to know that the first night we talked was the first night i hadn't cried in weeks.
you're the first person in these past three weeks to make me laugh.
thank you.
