Chapter five

*Bryce's POV*

As it was my shift to keep watch, I sat at the fire looking into its flames as I became lost in thought. Vince, my brother who is everything that I am, and I must make sure he is happy. I don't care if people think I'm unethical, only thing that matters is taking care of him. For all I care, he could have a harem (Epic foreshadowing) but it didn't matter. I need to go through every single girl, just like Esdeath, to make sure they know what is most important. It doesn't matter if he's abusive towards them, as long as they love every part of him and will do anything including sacrificing every fiber of their being to take care of him, they are allowed to get close. That is what Esdeath is, a source of joy for Vince no matter what he does.

I woke up from my sleep, I noticed that Esdeath was really close against me. "What is with this girl?" I thought. I push it to the side and sat up to look at our campsite. "Oh, you're finally awake. You were trying to cross the border-

"Oh you're awake. How was sleeping with your girlfriend." Bryce teased. "She isn't my girlfriend, but I could be wrong." I nudge against Esdeath so we can continue on our journey. We have many more floors to go. "You know though, I think she likes you." Bryce said as we were packing up and just out of ear shot of Esdeath. "Really? You think I have a chance with her?" I ask with a smile. "Here, take this as a gift. Obviously by the way she acts, she does. I mean, you did help her from that mess." Bryce said as he handed me a sapphire on a leather necklace before patting my back. "I'll go scout, now's your chance." He said before leaving.

I sigh before I walked over to Esdeath, she was finishing her breakfast. "Okay Vince, don't screw up this time. Not another stab wound." I thought to psych myself up. "Hey Esdeath, how are you?" I said out loud. "Good first move." I quickly imagine. "Good, just a bit cold." She replied with a shiver. I thought of what mom always said. "Always be a gentleman, boys, women always love gentlemen." I took off my bear coat, that only slowed me down, and wrapped it around Esdeath. "There you go, that should keep you warm."

I sat next to her and wrapped a arm around her, to keep her more warm, that's all. She placed her head against my shoulder and snuggled up against me, it was nice.

We walk for some time, encountering as few beasts as we can, but fighting at full extent. Me and Esdeath slicing them all, while Bryce provided support. After several floors we encountered a side door, it was off from the main path but there it stood. "So, anything happened with you guys while I scouted?" Bryce asked as we approached the majestic double doors. On each side of the door was a statue of a cyclops sunk deep into the recesses of the wall. "No, nothing much really." I respond, stepping forward. Bryce just sighed as he muttered something before smiling. "Well, now we have this door. You know anything Esdeath?" He asked. "No, sorry. I haven't been anywhere down below the arena." She replied.
