Chapter 5: from a different perspective

Gray, now a Demon Slayer, stood shirtless in front of the job board with happy on his shoulder. All of a sudden the Guild doors opened to reveal a Blue haired mage he hadn't seen in a few months. He only smiled at Erza and without a word made his way to Gramps' office only to return a few seconds later.

He made his way to Erza and showed her the back of his hand with a smile on his face, Gray watched as Erza teared up and hugged him tightly. He then noticed the Guild mark on his hand....on the same one Lucy had hers once...

He clenched his fists and bared his teeth. Ever since the day he found out Lucy left he had been searching everywhere he could think of for her to find no trace of her. He was especially worried because not even the reporters were able to find her for a single interview. What if something happened to her?

-flashback to the day Lucy Left-

Gray made his way to the guild, he hadn't planned on going today but he just had to see Lucy. He wasn't sure why but he really wanted to see her and hug her again. When he got inside he was confused to see Levy and Wendy crying each hugging an Exceed meanwhile Happy was hitting Natsu?

"I wanted to go with Lusheee!!!" He cried angrily. "I hate you Natsuuuuu!!!"

Gray couldn't believe what he was hearing, Happy hate Natsu? Impossible. He walked over to the blue exceed and pulled him off Natsu walking away from him and Juvia who tried to talk to him "G-Gray I-" she started.

"Fuck off." He spat coldly. Out of the corner of his eye he saw Juvia tense and her eyes widen, her lips quivered and she walked out of the guild with Natsu hot on her heels.

Gray sat down with Happy in his arms. "There—- uh there there happy—- Lucy's probably just on a job she'll be back and then you can uh go with her?" He said trying to comfort the exceed though he wasn't doing a very good job.

"L-lushe isn't coming back" he cried. "She'd not a Fairy Tail Mage anymore" he sobbed crying even harder than before.

Gray tensed up. "What?." He felt his heart drop. "Lucy....left the guild...?" He asked his eyes widening and tears threatening to overflow.

Happy nodded only to get up and fly over to Lisanna who was the Next closest thing he had to Lucy. Gray felt salty tears slip down his cheeks as he stared at his hands. That's why Levy and Wendy were crying? He got up and just stood there for a few minutes, he could feel people's guilty and pitiful stares.

He bared his teeth and ran out of the guild as fast as his legs would take him. He ran to her Apartment hoping to find her there. Hoping this was all just a bad dream. That he'd wake up after opening her door and be in his bed, then he'd run to her and hug her like there was no tomorrow, but when he entered her apartment...it was completely barren.

The only thing of hers he was able to find was a picture of the old team...when everyone was happy. There were wrinkled spots from where Lucy had shed tears and clutched onto the picture tightly.

He clenched his fists and yelled as loud as he could "Lokeeeeeee!!!!"

The sound of a bell ringing was heard in the distance and in an instant Loke was standing beside Gray. They were close friends and Loke had given him a limited amount of times Gray could call on him.

Gray turned to Loke. "Where...where is Lucy?" He asked.

Loke looked down at the ground guiltily "I'm not allowed to share that information with you Gray I'm sorry."

Gray grabbed Loke by the collar and angrily yelled at him "TELL ME WHERE SHE IS!!" He demanded.

"For what?! So you'll make her come back and suffer more?! Don't you see Gray?! She can't stand to be around Magnolia anymore!!! It hurts her to remember all those good and BAD memories she's had here." Loke yelled back.

Gray put him down a look of regret and shock on his face.

"The only thing I can tell you is that she's not in Magnolia anymore." Loke said readjusting his Tie, "she wants to become stronger and make a name for herself, keep your eyes peeled maybe one day she'll be right in front of you and you won't even know it." He said with a smirk.

Gray growled "what? Why would I not know it's Lucy of course I-" before he could finish Loke went back to the spirit world.

After that Gray spent weeks searching for Lucy and kept up with her favorite magazines and took jobs he thought she'd want, ones where the Rewards were big but also ones that offered Celestial Keys...he'd even buy some he thought looked powerful in hopes that when he found her he could give them to her.

He hadn't spoken to Juvia or Natsu since and had taken in Happy since the little exceed despised Natsu now. There were a few times when Natsu claimed Happy was HIS exceed and Happy would say he was Lucy's that Gray was just taking care of him until Lucy would come back and even yelled a few times that Lucy wasn't heavy at all which made Gray smile a bit.

-End Flashback-

Gray snapped out of his trance when he noticed Natsu walk up to Jellal like normal. As if everything was okay with everyone.

"Hey Jellal-" Natsu was cut off as Jellal punched him in the face?! Natsu was sent flying into a wall from the impact—-how strong had Jellal gotten all of a sudden?!

Jellal looked Furious and everyone was Surprised, sure everyone had taken a turn at beating up Natsu after what he did to Lucy but Jellal usually didn't associate with Guild problems.

"Don't think I don't know what you did to my sis- I mean to Miss Lucy F- Heartfilia." He growled.

Erza looked at him suspiciously, "since when do you call Lucy Miss?" She said crossing her arms.

Jellal tensed up and said "I uh— we went on a few jobs together after she left Fairy Tail, she's become really strong and dependable I just have great respect for her is all." He said.

Many people in the Guild tensed up at the mention of Lucy.

"Y-you've seen Lucy San?!" Wendy was the first to jump up.

Jellal longed to hug his sister again but held back knowing everyone would question his motives again.

Gray walked up to Jellal he couldn't help but smile at the news. Lucy was okay! "Where did you last see her?! Where is she now? Are you still in contact with her?!" He asked

The rest of Lucy's closest friends joined in asking about her meanwhile Juvia tended to Natsu but Gray didn't care anymore.

"I—-well..." Jellal should've known better than to mention Lucy or hit Natsu at all. Now he'd have to come up with more lies. "L-last time I saw her she was working with the grand council to stop some dark guild—-It was about 2 weeks ago when I was on my way here...but I don't know where she went afterwards she likes going off the grid sometimes yknow...." that part was true except it had been over a month ago.

Gray looked disappointed for a second but now he knew where to start "is she maybe in a new guild?" He asked wondering if maybe she had joined a new guild to get stronger.

Jellal flinched—why was he asking so many questions "n—-" Gray cut him off with a Smirk "thanks blueberry that reaction was all the answers I needed!"

Jellal Sweat dropped as Gray ran out of the guild with Happy behind him, Wendy followed after him holding Charle in her arms. "Gray San wait! I want to come find Lucy too!" She exclaimed in a much happier tone than anyone had heard from her since Lucy disappeared, even Natsu felt a little Guilty for taking a shred of happiness from her.
