We're on our way to the downtown office to sign some documents. My playlist is blasting through the speakers and I'm matching the volume singing a Whitney Houston classic, "Im Every Woman". I'm proud of myself because I'm matching the notes closely...kinda.  I love singing but my vocals took a huge hit from the myriad of meds I used to take, I can hear my vocals getting stronger again  little by little.

I know Ren's watching me enjoy myself so I stick my tongue out at him, showing off. The car makes a sudden stop and he secures my hands with one hand and the other pulls me into a kiss so deep my toes curl. After what feels like an eternity I'm breathless when he reluctantly pulls away but remains inches from my lips.

"I warned you about that tongue"

Yes he did; damn his voice is sexy.

"Well if that's the punishment can you blame me?"

He starts driving, I'm recovered and back to singing my heart out when "In the Late of Night" by Toni Braxton comes on.
A little back story about that song; I considered  it one of the soundtracks to my life. It's a song I'd listen to when I had a broken heart or just sad. I got so conditioned to it that I only need to hear the intro and tears automatically came. I told Ren about it but I don't think he really understood until he saw it for himself at that moment.

He stops the song and finds a radio station Jayla always asked for when she rode with us. I smile at his silly dances and I turn the volume up some more. He had the nerve to challenge me to a dance off. Yes; while sitting and let's just say...I won...maybe.

Last time I was at this office was for a lunch date and I was so uncomfortable; everything felt foreign around me.
Now I'm back walking with Ren's strong arm around my waist. I step into that building like I built and owned the damn thing!

He kept me close even when he took calls. Ren's best friend and business partner Brent enters the office with two guys, I greet them and excuse myself. I go to the adjacent room to check out the view from the seventy ninth floor. A few minutes later I hear Ren's voice booming through the office intercom.

"Mrs soon-to-be Rutherford where have you run off to?"

Keep in mind this is a regular work day EVERYBODY'S here.
I do my best Beyonce strut back to his office and place myself in his lap with my legs crossed.  I could feel his concentration was no longer on work.

Our wedding night can't come quick enough, I'm fucking hanging on by thread here. If we're missing during the reception you can guess what we're doing.
That night he made sure to erase every sad feeling that was associated with "In The Late of Night". It was like he broke a spell I was under for years in just one night. Tears were falling again but these were happy tears for the man beside me who was indeed the answer to my prayers.
