What didn't phase you was your father's remarriage. That dude got around. According to him, his new wife also had a 21-year-old son who was coming along for the ride.

Welp. Didn't matter. You were flying off for college in a few months anyway. You were going to live the cramped-dorm, dirt-broke, party-every-night freshman life you'd always dreamed of and maybe wind up with a degree in a few years.

Unfortunately, the year was 2020. You watched as your plans quickly turned into garbage water.

"Bruh," you groaned. Freshman year of college, gone. Reduced to Zoom calls. Plus, you had to face your new mother and brother, and be homestuck with them for however long quarantine lasted. What if they were absolute bungholes? What if your new step-bro couldn't help you get unstuck from a washer and/or a dryer? How could you stand it?

You sat gruffly on the couch while your dad went out to the driveway to usher in your new fellow inmates. This was their moving-in day, and you'd been dreading it like the plague.

If only your dad was Jeff Bezos. Then you could avoid your step-folks by simply migrating to a different acre of the house.

You looked up. The door was opening! Oh God...

In stepped a surprisingly nice-looking lady and a lanky dude. The lady had one of those kind faces, and the minute she stepped in you could tell she was cool. You couldn't tell much about her son yet, but it'd only be a matter of time.

"___, say hi to your new mom and brother!" (It had to be the tenth time you'd ever heard your father say that.)

"Hi," you said. You were a little at ease. They at least didn't look like bungholes.

"Hi, ___, we've heard so much about you!" said your step-mom. She waved. You waved back. So far, so epic.

"Hey." The dude - your Step-Bro - was looking a little awkward. Maybe it was because you were relatively the same age.

You nodded, offering him a smile. "Yeah. You're Clay."

"Yep." He had green eyes. He smiled back a little. "It's gonna be one heck of a quarantine."

The guy was right.
