Warning: kissing (a tiny bit)
The day is ending, and since George still has some project to finish, they have to leave before sundown. They go on a few more rides, and although the girls have been hinting going on the slow romantic ones, George has been adamantly steering them away and choosing anything but. Dream wonders if he does it because he noticed.
For their last game, George offers to pay for a round of paintball. He says it's a thank you for the girls since he had a lot of fun, and it's been a while since he went out at all with his load.
He doesn't add that it's been a while since he hung out with Dream, too, and Dream pretends he's not affected by it.
The girls didn't refuse, and being the competitive pricks that they are, challenges the boys to another game. Nothing on the line, though, just the thrill of victory and bragging rights.
"But let's not do it couple vs. couple," Sofia says. "What about D versus S?"
"But there's no S in my name?" George asks, confused.
"Well sorry your name sucks"
Dream lets go of George's hand and lets himself get pulled away. They get geared up and then oriented with a few other people, but all the fuss is just unnecessarily prolonging the tension between two teams, with Diana and Sofia mouthing insults to each other while their instructor in front tries to reel them in.
"Don't bother," George tells the poor man. "They won't pay attention anyway."
Dream raises a brow at George who is uncharacteristically peaceful at this time. He's usually the first one to hurl insults to the other team especially to Dream. This earns a playful grin from George, who mouths You're going down to Dream right before they're ushered away.
Oh, Dream realises when he catches himself watching George's retreating figure and waiting for George to look back, which he doesn't, before he follows his own team to their side of the field.
The loud horn signifies the start of the game and it's immediately chaos. Dream specifically looks for George in the middle of the game (which he realises later is a bad paintball technique, but he can't help it when he just naturally gravitates towards him), and finds that he has already taken down two other people from Dream's team. It shouldn't have come as a surprise when George spots him first, and before he can decide to hit George or make a run for it, he's already dead.
"WOOOO POGGERS" George screams. His laughter fading away as he takes a turn before anyone else can hit him.
George and Sofia's team are pushing back Dream and Diana's team with unbeatable ease it's almost annoying. The two come together to take down Diana, who manages to hit Sofia before she goes down by George's bullets. There's another loud honk and the game is over.
It's too easy to find Dream with his loud familiar wheezing laughter, but George weaves through the maze to look for him, anyway. He's still filled with adrenaline even when he's one of the first ones out, 5 minutes into the game. He can still feel his heart hammering, his hands shaking and he knows it's not because of paintball.
"Dream!"
Dream whirls, and finds George stomping towards him, almost dancing with his gun, obviously elated by their team's win, but Dream can only process that secondarily.
All he can think of right then is George.
"You and your sloppy technique! Your poor aims! You're suppose to be good!"
George.
Dream tries to make his strides as normal as possible, but George still seems farther than he would like even when the other boy is also walking towards him.
