Luke's POV
School went pretty quickly, and by the time I knew it, the bell rung indicating the end of the day. My lessons were okay; but I didn't have English which was a little lousy because it was my favourite subject at my old school. However, checking my timetable, I had it first lesson tomorrow.
Calum asked me to meet him after school, after he told me he lived just a street away from me. Calum seemed really nice, and I hoped that we'd be able to be good friends. Nobody else spoke to me this entire day, not once. People stared a lot, but I couldn't blame them. The majority of the students here knew each other from nursery times, so they'd be used to seeing everyone each day. They didn't know me.
I began walking around from Art to meet Calum at the gates when a boy approached me. I never saw him before. He had dirty blonde wavy hair being pushed back by a dark red bandana. He was slightly tanned, with wide hazel eyes and large lips. He was scowling at me; I felt my stomach drop. If he was anything like Michael was, I would rather leave now. But my feet stayed on the floor, intrigued to see what this boys problem was.
Without a word, he handed me a piece of paper. I raised my eyebrows and glanced down at it, noticing that it was a party invite. At Michael's house. I peered at the boy again and figured he was probably one of his 'tag alongs'.
"I saw you were hanging out with Hood," the boy spoke accusingly, his eyebrows pushed together. He folded his bare arms across his chest, flexing his muscles. Seeing as he was was only wearing a loose black band tank top, you could see them very clearly.
It took me a minute to realise he was talking about Calum. "I guess so. Why?"
"No reason. Show him the invite and make sure he turns up. Tell him a hi from Ashton, okay? I guess you can come, too." He shrugged like inviting random guys to someone else's party was nothing. I guess house parties weren't that big of deal.
But I narrowed my eyes at him. "What if I can't get him to come?"
"Then you'd better watch your back. Because me and my friends will find you." He beamed sarcastically, before rolling his eyes and stalking off.
Huh, weird. I just sighed and began strolling to where I was supposed to meet Calum. I wondered why Ashton wanted him to come to some lame house party, but realised it wasn't my business whatever it was. I didn't know whether I wanted to go to the party, either, but I knew that if Calum was going, he'd want me to go. He'd told me he didn't have any friends really, and was happy we'd become friends, despite only knowing each other a day.
I guessed there'd be drinking which I didn't really care about; I wouldn't drink anyway. Probably a great deal of drugs, too, which I also wasn't bothered about. But what I was concerned about was Michael Clifford. He made it clear he didn't want me around.
Anyway, when I found Calum, he was grinning like he always seemed to. From what I knew about him, he was full of smiles and optimism. I guess I was too, on the outside. That's why I had hope for me and Calum.
"You took your time," he joked, pushing back his black and blonde hair, still grinning like I'd made some sort of antic.
I handed him the piece of paper. "Ashton wanted me to give you this. He invited us both. He wants me to make sure you go, or him and his friends will get me." I shrugged, my eyes narrowed at his reaction.
"Ashton?" He whispered, his coal eyes hardening at the name.
"Uh, yeah... I mean, um, we don't have to go. I just want to avoid getting my ass kicked by their group." I murmured.
Calum shook his head and stuffed the invitation in his jeans pocket. "No, we're going. I'll pick you up at nine. I'll borrow my Dad's truck." He spoke quickly, nervously, but like he was trying to feign confidence.
