Luke's POV

I walked home with Calum after school because he hadn't bought his car. He didn't mention his bad mood yesterday, so I decided to just let it slide. Everyone had their bad days, so I wasn't going to just dwell on it. Besides, he was being all cheerful like he was when I first met him, even when I really wasn't in the mood. I didn't want to go to Michael's tonight.

I hadn't told Calum about Michael, because the level of pure hatred he had for him. I'm pretty sure it's because Ashton left Calum for Michael, but I wasn't going to ask Calum about it. He hardly knew me, I doubt he was about to open up to me about why he loathed someone so much. It wasn't like I was going to tell him about what happened to me last year, not yet.

"Luke, are you listening?"

I snapped out of my thoughts when I heard Calum's harsh tone. I turned to him and saw as he was narrowing his dark eyes at me. We were about five minutes until his house, and he'd been rambling on about the Science Quiz at the end of the year, I kind of zoned out. "Yeah, sorry, Calum." I mumbled, running a hand through my tousled hair. The thoughts on Michael were driving me crazy.

"You're clearly thinking about something," he protested, adjusting his black SnapBack on his head.

I shrugged. "Just random shit. Anyway, what were you saying?"

"Well, some guy in our science club- Vic- thinks he's gay. I mean, that's gotta be tough. It's not often you get gay guys in this school. He came out in assembly, and people are like well, he's a nerd, it's kinda obvious, which is a pathetic remark. I feel bad for him."

I blushed. Calum noticed, although he was also blushing pretty bad. Was Calum gay, too? I didn't want to make him uncomfortable by asking, yet I found myself oddly curious to know. I wasn't into him or anything, but the way he flushed made me real suspicious.

However, he continued talking. "Just because someone's gay, it doesn't mean they're any less of a good person, right? God, I hate homophobic jerks. It's not like people choose who they like." He seemed angry, now.

"You should fall in love with a person, not a gender," I agreed with him. That was my top statement whenever someone had trouble with their sexuality. You shouldn't worry about what sex you begin to like, just who that person is. Why dwell in whether they have a penis or not?

Calum was wide eyed. "Um... yeah. Hey, so when are you actually gonna explain to me why you're so pissed off right now, Luke?"

"Calum, it's nothing. It's just something my English teacher is making me do, but I can handle it." I was pretty sure I'd be losing my mind by the end of today, but I wasn't going to let Michael get to me. I was worth more than that.

He nodded slowly, looking at me with suspicion all over his features. "I thought we were friends..."

"Okay, okay," I snapped in defeat. Jeez. "I have to go to Michael's house tonight for some English project. Mr Jenkins put us together with some guy named Peeta, and we all have to do some essay on Shakespeare. I'm annoyed because I don't want to spend my Tuesday night with Michael." It was true, I would rather spend my time with someone worthy.

Calum's mouth popped open, he seemed really shocked. But he didn't mention Michael's name at all. "Peeta Woodward? He's by far the most depressing guy in the whole school. And he's so full up on drugs, man." She shook his head.

"I don't care about Peeta. I don't want to spend the night with Michael!" I whined, stopping Calum before he was able to leave me. We were at his house now, but I felt like I needed some guidance off him before I left.
