"Rudy, where are you going, love?" Rudy's mother Barbara whispered when she saw her youngest son opening the front door slowly, trying not to wake his sister, "To see Liesel, Mama," he replied quietly, anxiously biting his bottom lip and running a hand through his bright hair.
His Mama frowned uneasily "Its going to be midnight soon my love." Rudy looked at her with a pleading expression in his blue eyes "Please, Mama, I'll be right back..." He declared quietly. His mother shook her head slowly, with a sigh she muttered "Okay, but hurry back, or I won't let you outside tomorrow."
Rudy knew he had to be with her, his Liesel. He thought of her with her dark blonde ringlets and wide brown eyes and smiled to himself, The boy with the hair the colour of lemons set off on his bike to find her.
It was after midnight when Rudy found Liesel, he didn't know why but he felt that he had to see her and he would of searched all night. He climbed from the pipes and splintered wood up to her bedroom, he saw 'The Whistler' and remembered when he had gone in to the Amper River after Viktor Chemmel had thrown in it.
The Whistler brought back bad memories and when he remembered Viktor calling Liesel a "little whore" his fists clenched. Rudy then remembered that Liesel might be in her basement and he slowly went down the stairs and he saw Liesels back turned and her writing in a small black book. Rudy had a idea and he jumped on Liesel, she screamed loudly and ink sprayed all over the page. "JESUS MARY AND JOSEPH! YOU STUPID SAUKERL!" She shouted at Rudy and when she saw his arrogant half smile she went to hit him before he said "I love you, Saumensch."
She looked at him, lost for words, Rudy noticed and realised how stupid he'd been, so before she could reply, Rudy leant down and pressed his dry lips on to Liesel's soft ones he kissed her softly for what seemed like forever in the treasured moments. Rudy pulled away first as he heard the sirens go off he panicked and grabbed Liesels hand, they ran up the stairs and gaped with a look of pure misery forming on their faces... As they looked at the burning wreckage at what had once been Himmel Street.
Liesel looked up at Rudy and realised how close she was to losing him and realised how she felt about him. He made her smile, for a few seconds her gaze lingered back to what had once been her home and tears ran down her cheeks, as perfect as raindrops. She knew how much worse it would of been if Rudy had been inside... then finally she whispered "I... I-I love you too... Saukerl." as she looked in to Rudy's bright blue eyes.
