Rosalynn and Killian made their way back through the dark hallways after the "grand tour" ending at the history building and the familiar pit that had been eased away by the presence of a kind soul had come back tenfold. All she could think about now is how she would no longer be an individual.
She would become the omega to Carolynn's Alpha; she would no longer be her own.
She was drawn away from her dark thoughts by the sound of violent screaming. Killian immediately sprang into action running down the hall hurdling towards the sound. Rosalynn could not get herself to move as the bloody flashbacks took hold of her. How were Killian and her the only ones who heard that? Why isn't anyone else running towards the sound? Why did it have to be her?
She finally moved her feet towards the sound and instantly regretted it. There, in a pool of his own vomit, was Kyle Langerford. As she looked on to the scene Killian was covering Kyle's wrists using scraps of his now tattered and bloody uniform jacket. Rosalynn felt a coldness overcome her and she sprung into action. This one wouldn't die.
"Go get the admins." Rosalynn adopted a cool, steel tone to her voice.
Killian looked at her and Rosalynn could have sworn she saw a hint of a smile. She didn't have time for the confusion bubbling up inside of her. She took a deep breath and let the cold overtake her again.
She took a closer look at Kyle's wounds; He had deep holes in his ankles and wrists, his stomach looked unnaturally poked out; almost as if he had swallowed a watermelon. When Killian returned the confusion only became even worse as the admins began to slowly file in quietly staring at the scene before them leaving Rosalynn to deal with a boy she only knew through her sister and had seen once at a party.
As Rosalynn sat there holding the crying boy's hand, she realized that his face began to just look.... Wrong. Kyle was beginning to turn purple. He smelled like rotted meat?
"He can't breathe! Somebody help!"
Admins began filling the small corridor. The last being their pack leader barreling through the now busy hallway. Killian yanked Rosalynn away from the boy now lying helplessly in the middle of the crowd. All of the adults stood silently around the boy never offering any help.
"What are you doing!? Help him!"
Killian remained silent, taking in everything around him. Rosalynn didn't struggle in his almost desperate arms. It was comforting to know that someone else was witnessing this and she was not crazy. She has always been made out to be the crazy one. The adults around them slowly turned to look at the two teens simultaneously.
"Miss Commendi, he passed out. All we can do is wait for the ambulance. Running around and acting crazy will do nothing to help the boy. He is in God's hands now." Mrs. Umberick turned to look at the two teens. She looked at them with a bored expression as if this happens regularly.
"You will say nothing about this to anyone. In fact, you two are dismissed for the rest of the day. If I see either of you on campus at all you will be suspended. You will say nothing about this to your guardians. This is a private matter that will be handled by the school. It was probably just a bad high. He looks like he has gotten sick from the food he ate as well like the glutton he is. This has happened many times before"
Killian lowered his head closer to Rosalynn's and whispered "Please just say okay and come with me. I'll explain everything to you when we leave. If this is what I expect it to be, we need to get out of here before they arrive"
Rosalynn couldn't speak. What she saw before her was an unconscious teenaged boy who had suffered greatly and was now surrounded by grown adults doing nothing to help. These were the very adults that were supposed to protect them every single day they are in their care. Rosalynn's mother would have a fit if she knew about this... whatever this was.
She chose the safer option and listened to Killian. This could possibly bite her in the ass but at this point if it got her out of school, she did not care. It isn't like her sister would miss her little shadow very much for one day.
She let her new ally tug her gently tug her away from the scene. If only her mom could see her now. With her new friend, would she really be telling her to be different then? This situation is almost comical. She goes out of her comfort zone for one person, they end up witnessing a kid practically being stuffed and crucified, then they're told to skip school by the very people who should be keeping them in school.
She let this kid she hadn't even met before lead her away to his car and eventually to a small lake near the school campus. This felt like the start of a horror movie that she could not get out of.
Once the static became too much for her, she broke the silence.
"What happened? Start explaining. Please."
Rosalynn's voice got quieter with each word she managed to get out as her adrenaline wore off.
"Well for starters your admins are angels"
Rosalynn whipped her head around to look at Killian with narrowed eyes.
"Yeah and I'm a fairy. Be serious."
Killian kept his stoic expression. "No you're human, just enhanced."
She rolled her eyes, "Oh yeah? Are you going to take me off to my new school to be sorted?"
Killian could not help but laugh. "I don't think now is the time to be really sarcastic. I mean how else do you explain the smell or the wounds?"
Rosalynn stomped towards Killian. "There's no goddamn way that you're being serious. I'm not going through this again dude. I won't be made out to be crazy because of you." Did somebody put him up to this? Maybe Carolynn didn't like that she was getting better and wanted to knock her down a peg. NO. Carolynn wouldn't, Rosalynn could tell that she cared in her own way; Her followers would to make Carolynn look better though. Hard to be pitied for the crazy sister if she's all better.
It was as if Killian could recognize the gears turning in her head and his expression softened, he closed his eyes, and his mouth started moving a mile a minute. "This is going to sound absolutely nuts but I need you to bear with me. My family has been in charge of watching and protecting yours for hundreds of years. You and your sister are a part of a special family called the Gatekeepers. There's a lot to explain and not very much time at all so I'm just going to show you something, and you can not freak out, and then I am getting into my car and going to my Grams house so that she can explain the important stuff Okay? Okay."
With that the breathless teen, still red in the face, then grabbed a long curved dagger from his bag. Rosalynn took a step back "Wha-" Killian gave her a pointed look "What did I say?!" Sensing there was no danger Rosalynn put her arms up in mock surrender. Killian nodded his head once in triumph. The boy then used all the strength he could to throw the curved blade forward into the ground while yelling the phrase "Dwelling of the Watcher!" with that a hole opened up in the ground with swirling green mist around it. Killian looked at Rosalynn, "Well?? Jump in!"
Rosalynn was baffled and looked at the hole and back at Killian. "What happened to getting into your car after this?!?" He grinned "If I remember correctly I said that I would be getting into my car after this" Rosalynn paled "You do not really expect me to jump into that do you?" Killian's grin got even wider "Do you want to be Carolynn's shadow forever or do things your own way"
Rosalynn gave him a dark look and did exactly what he expected her to do and jumped.
