I laid in my bed with my headphones on, I was listening to Kate Bush, her music always made me feel a certain way, but I had no idea why though. I closed my eyes and inhaled deeply, I just wish I could be happy for once but the huge hole in my heart was preventing that from happening, all the shame and sorrow, I can't get rid of it. I felt a hands being placed on me, I opened my eyes to see Billy above me.

"Sleeping on the job are we now?"

"Fuck off."

"Uh oh, someone's cranky."

"What do you want from me?"

"Dad wants you downstairs."

"Ugh."

"Come on, don't be a prissy princess."

"Get out of my room."

"How come? Are you gonna do something about it?"

"I said get out."

"Okay, as you wish princess, or should I say, royal pain?"

"Get the fuck out!" Billy put his hands up in defense and finally left, I threw my headphones off my head and got off my bed to get dressed. When I got my clothes on I left my bedroom and went to the kitchen to see what my father wanted. "You needed me?"

"Yes, I do. She's awake and I want you down there."

"Yes. Sir." I rolled my eyes and made my way to the basement, near the open door way I heard whimpering and talking, I looked into the deep basement and saw Billy messing with the girl.

"I'm sure you wouldn't mind losing a bit of clothes would you?" I saw him reach forward, the girl started screaming, anger rose in me and I immediately ran down the steps and pulled Billy off the girl. "Whoa Max, got a lot more strength than I thought you did."

"Don't touch her."

"I do what I want."

"You better keep your purvey hands off her."

"Awww, does littlie Max want the poor girl all to herself."

"Leave."

"Wh-"

"Billy! Upstairs, now!" My dad called, my brother looked at me and sneered then left, I turned back to the girl, she sat there with her head between her knees whimpering and breathing hard. I knelt down in front of her and outstretched my hand to touch her, she looked up and quickly threw my hand away from her.

"It's okay, it's just me." I looked closely at the girls face and saw a long cut across her cheek, I reached forward to look at it but the girl quickly drew back. "I'm sorry, I...sorry." I sat down in front of her not to be in her face. "Are you okay?" She didn't answer and stared at me, like usual. "Well guess you probably aren't, not with these conditions." She didn't say anything. She looked down and started playing with a loose thread sitting on her now ripped shirt. "Hey." She looked back up at me in response. "I'm-I'm sorry about him, he...he doesn't have control over himself." She kept quiet and looked back down. "I'll umm...I'll try to keep him away from you." She looked up once again with a confused look. "I don't want him to hurt you, I don't want you to get hurt at all...I know this all is a lot, and it's gonna be hard but...I want to help you, okay? I'm not here to hurt you, I don't want to, but they do." I motioned to the door at the top of the stairs. "But I'm going to do what I can to keep them away...I promise." She looked at me with a confused expression. "You don't know what promise is?" She didn't answer and continued staring with a confused look. "A promise is...something you can't break...umm, so if you make a promise to someone, you have to make sure to keep that promise. Now I can't totally promise I can keep them away, but...I'll try." Her face softened and she sat up getting a bit more comfortable, when she was up she brought her knees back to her chest. "So...what's you name?" She didn't respond and kept her eyes to the floor. "Do you not have a name?" She didn't move her gaze away from the floor. "Oh...umm. Maybe we can give you one." She looked up stiffening and furrowed her eyebrows. "We as in me and you." She relaxed and looked into my eyes with no response. "Okay, how about...Roz?" She frowned. "That's a no, you don't look like a Roz anyway...uhh, what about...Florence?" She furrowed her brows again. "Yeah, didn't think so...oh, I got one...what do you think about Eleanor?" She sat up a little more straighter, that must've caught her interest. "I think that's a good one, it's pretty. And, we can call you El for short." She nodded in agreement. "Cool, I guess I get to call you El now."
